Now, make bars stay hot longer, and maybe this is better. But as-is, it sucks imo.
Saw some players who after placing bars on the anvil starts to look for a hammer( which most of the time is tossed after using on the floor), finds it, finds out that bars are cold, tosses hammer back on floor. reheats bars. And starts to search for hammer again....

Yes, but that is just sequence, not alignment.
What i mean is, the Metal bars don't have to be within the lines of the small depressions on the anvil. Just drop them roughly on the number and you're good.
Can't subsequently craft on it aswell.
Like put 5 bars on one slot and 5 gems on other slot and craft 5 rings by hitting hammer 5 times - no longer possible on new anvil only 1 at a time if you put more it wont work anymore after single one despite bars being still red hot and you will have to remove the mats and put them back again to craft another one.
The old Anvil was way less janky
As for making sense when crafting, choosing your recipe, the indents are numbered along with the item you wanting to craft, place ingots/gems respectfully in those indents and follow the items guide carefully.
When I used it(the new anvil version) for the first time I couldn´t make it work, took me about 15 tries to make a necklace. Despite changing the placement and the position of the resources it wouldn´t do it. Somehow managed to make items but it is a fight to get it done, still happens often to take too long and having to re-heat the Ingots again but sometimes it does feel it´s bugged and need to circle the items around or grab the anvil and place it again to get it to work again.
Did you manage to solve the issue? I'm having the same issue... It worked in the tutorial but no matter what I try in the main game it won't craft anything
I agree the old one was too small, but this new one is too damn finicky. I just spent more than 15 minutes trying to make a single ring. My fire and anvil are right next to each other and I keep the hammer on the floor next to the anvil, so it wasn't like I was fumbling around for things.
I did like I've always done in the past and threw the gem for the ring on the anvil while the gold was still melting in the crucible. Once I poured the ingot, I heated it up and placed it on the anvil roughly in the indent and swung the hammer at the anvil. Nothing. Took a few more swings. Still nothing. Now the ingot's cold and I have to reheat it. Rinse and repeat this a number of times and fail to make a ring.
Finally, I'm like "Please God, don't tell me I have to place things down in the numerical order listed on the anvil." Removed the gem from the anvil and started with the hot ingot, then the gem. Bang, got a ring on the first swing.
What difference does the order of placement make? All the items need to be on the anvil to craft the object, it seems to me as long as they are placed in the correct slots that should be more than sufficient. With the old anvil you could just heap three hot ingots in a pile and hitting the anvil would make a sword.
The whole experience was frustrating and more so because every time I swung the hammer and failed my character would make that annoying "uh?" sound like he had been kicked in the head by a mule when he was a child.
