They are going to be releasing a update to the apocalypse system for everyone at the same time as the DLC, and will be releasing a balance patch as well. The DLC needs to be paid to justify the dev time, and the Devs are making sure that people who aren't buying the DLC still get something
And if the DLC isn't worth it for the amount of time you play the game then just don't buy it? As someone who puts multiple hours into the game every week I will continue to enjoy the DLCs and plan to buy the future one

It's a lot of work to balance a game like this, and quite difficult financially to continue developing it.
The complexity and balance make it really good, and at the same time a bit too subtle for casual gamers.
I don't even know a better similar game, so any new content is quite welcome.
You paid for the content that was in the base game. New content was made and so they are charging for it. It isn't like the content was cut from the game and made into DLC.

i already bought the game and for such a simple game to continue to ask for more money for such minor add ons... further when the game itself is a rogue like where i really play once every few months for a play through its just never worth it... glad the main game and early access supporters are forgotten i guess.
Just because you only play every few months doesn't mean other people, who play the game more often, don't want more content.

You don't need to buy it.
"I bought the original iPhone, what do you mean that doesn't entitle me to every subsequent iPhone!?"
I disagree that paid dlc is bad. Devs need money, they can't update a game forever on sales alone.
However, I did had issues with the Dwarf DLC and hope the Elf DLC addresses this: It made the game easier... I mean it. The new weapons are REALLY good, the dwarven race is neither better or worse than the humans, and Runeberg didn't add enough with just the runestones. No new enemies, no new mechanics, no new traps or hazards or really anything to threaten the player.

I understand the apocalypse update may address this...but that doesn't address the issue with the DLC, does it? It only makes the game easier, and adds 1 town that isn't all that hard.

I'll probably buy the next DLC too bc I play this game enough to justify wanting to see it. But I'll be kind of disappointed if it also makes it feel easier.

To address the obvious: Yes, a player should get to feel a power spike in a power fantasy game, even an apocalyptic hardcore rogue-lite one. But like, what's the point of getting the best weapon in the game after the final boss? I need something to SHOOT it at.

The Devs don't want the new weapons to be so much stronger than other weapons that they make the game easier and make the other weapons pointless, and the beta testing and launch feedback are supposed to even out that balance. they obviously would prefer the DLC stuff is slightly stronger than existing stuff or otherwise it can feel like people are wasting their money on game elements that they don't end up using.

For the Dwarves DLC they never received consensus about the strength of things, as many people were complaining that the weapons were too weak and that they would rather never have any dwarves as they had people saying the dwarves were too strong. Finding that balance is going to take time, and the DLC weapons are some of the stronger weapons, but that's only because there are some weapons that are just too weak, but as there is a balance patch coming with the DLC in response to the balance feedback post non DLC weapons should be brought closer to the best weapons, and this balance patch may well make the game easier, but new players often complain that the game is too hard (the game being too hard is the main complaint of the netagive reviews), but the apoc system will add customiseable dificulty for those of us who really enjoy the challenge
Whatever balance they land on, I just want the DLCs to add new enemies, mechanics, traps, or hazards to the Entire Game. By turning the DLC on, i want the game to be harder, with new, cool stuff to try out, learn, and master. As it stands, the DLC adds Overtuned weapons, an inoffensive racial choice/decision in heros, and 1 town with a single mechanic, runestones, that only get dangerous on the VERY LAST night, but is a HUGE benefit until then...

Again, I've enjoyed it so far, and I'll buy the next one. I'm not claiming betrayal or let-down, either. I just hope they add more to sink our teeth into.
Then don't buy it.....? People post anything in the steam forums lol.
