Lost progress

Closed the game before last night in Lakeburg. Now, opening it, I got an error message and have to start the town all over again, being able to only continue campaign. Meta-progression seems to still be there though. Is there a way to fix this/recover the unexplainably lost save file?

Just launched the game after a week of not playing and my day 9? Lakeburg run reset due to some error finding my save.

Exact same issue. Installed the game yesterday and quit out at the 6th day of Lakeburg to go to bed. Came home after work and it says the save can not be loaded.
Kicked me to the beginning of Lakeburg

I also lost progress, but it is not a big deal for me. I'm think some of the recent changes was needed.

It appears that the issue comes from the back protection perk (but maybe not this alone). So avoid picking it during a run on 1.0.2.15, or do not save & load that run or it will break just the same and the following method may not work for a .15 save.

If you want to retrieve your run and finish it you could try this method to revert the game to the previous patch (Thanks Dragon on Discord for the workaround) :

Push your windows key+r
Enter the following : steam://open/console
In the console : download_depot 1105670 1105671 5014437396252054174

Copy the gamesave.bin that was moved to broken back to Profile1 (parent folder of broken) and remove the added date time

Move C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_1105670\depot_1105671 to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Last Spell
You will also want to turn off auto updates.

Sorry again for the inconvenience. If you don't want to try this workaround, again, do not pick Back Protection as a perk or don't save & load that run.
