Idea for Apocalypse levels beyond 6
let's go straight to the point : I love the Hades difficulty system (heat) and I think it could fit this game.

The idea is that any additional penalty you add to the game adds to the apocalypse level. It's already how apocalypse levels work except the penalties and their order are already set. You can't mix them.

In an-Hades like system, you can add more monster, give them more life or add other penalties in any order. And go way beyond +6!

Each of these penalties would add to the apocalypse level. I'll start with the already existing ones :
Ennemies have +20 / +50 / +100 % life --> +1 / +2 / +3 apocalypse levels
More enemies +30 / +60 / +90% --> +1 / +2 / +3 apocalypse levels
Gold and materials prices increased by +20 / +40 % --> +1 / +2 apocalypse levels
Mist censers, +1 movement points and negative item stats could be kept as it is + 1 level each.

But also, for example...
More elite monsters --> + 1
The magic circle has only 1 max HP --> +1 (or +2)
When you choose a perk, a few other perks become unavailable --> +1
Minimum or maximum mist distance
Restrictions on static defenses
etc.

These could add up to way higher apocalypse levels. How high can we go?

We need an apoc 7 that give more HP/resistance/etc to bosses that would be perfect.

I havent even got too far in terms of apocalypse levels and im kinda bored the game was too easy and very long grind of easy content. I didnt see anything at higher leveles of apoc to change that so i stopped playing. I agree adding some additional levels would be a good idea. SOme endless mode with a ladder would be nice as well!

I like the game overall a lot its just it lacs of challange and someting to achieve i guess.

You can tailor your own difficulty pretty easy - just take less Omens with you.
In fact, if anything was to be added it ought to be more and NEGATIVE Omens that would increase player agency of difficulty on the high end.

Negative omens could be a nice way to flavor challenge runs.
From something mild like "-2 MV to all heroes" to something completely game changing like "+50% damage with unarmed hits. Cannot use weapons"

I'm not even remotely close yet. I am new to the genre and currently trying to break through Glenwald on apoc0.

For those looking for more - has anyone considered doing/done two hero/solo runs?

They Are Billions has a mix and match difficulty settings. Depending on your choices, it gives a difficulty score. It works very well.

The Last Spell has this stacked difficulty, not quite ideal, if someone doesn't like one aspect of it, they are still forced to play with it. I don't really like apoc 6, if more apocs will be added on top, I would be stuck with that.

However, some players limit their choices voluntarily, lots of scenarios have been tried.

The most severe difficulty increase would be the decrease of total number of houses. I find these runs the most skill challenging, even on apoc 0.

Currently, I'm trying a minimalist base, slow traps only as defense, opportunism only as damage build up, Glint apoc 0. Some streamers are doing 'theme' runs, and that seems to be the future for long term fans of this game.

Hopefully modding will allow more customization of 'theme' runs.
