Apoc 5 - Elderlicht -
I am trying to beat Apocalypse 5, Elderlicht, But am having a really really really hard time with it. I probably should have alt+F4 when I lost a hero, because at this apocalypse, losing a hero seems to be such a slow horrible loss as it is such a huge setback.

I am trying to balance economy with short-term solutions, but I don't think I am finding the balance. I am trying to mainly go for weapons, and I'll try to scavenge for weapons and armor since production in general is much more expensive after Apoc 4. Still, my weapons never seem to be as high level as they ought to be. My characters have trouble clearing the horde of monsters.

Then I am having trouble keeping my buildings alive since enemies have so many move points due to Apoc 5.

I am on the night with the twisted mages - and can't even clear them since no one has sheer power yet.

Do you guys have any tips?

Also, the run just got significantly harder since the patch updated midrun. The surprising thing is although the ballista nerf makes it harder, even more noticiable is the way mountain of corpses is generated now. I barely get any mountain of corpses even though half of the enemies die inside my base.

If you aren't completely walling your town in apoc 5, you are pretty much just letting those runners in with 13+ move. It's highly recommended to have all your heroes have at least ~40 block mid game so you can completely ignore a lot of the specters and able to put the heroes at the edge of the map so they chase them away from your walls.

You can easily go full economy if you build a block/poison hero early and they kinda buffed it as well with the latest patch. After that, go poison orb/shield and xbow/shield purely for the poison skills. Having 1 or 2 of these heroes will make the run a lot easier.

Imo you should go for armor production and pick up weapons as scavenge/rewards and maybe even in shop.

The most important stat on weapon is its base (level and damage), while on armor you can choose whatever gives best additional bonuses, so there is more room to min-max and roll.

Plus shields are the goat of not having to spec in early block and still having enough to patch holes with bodies and take a hit or two from ghosts.

Early twisted you want to mostly ignore and keep outside base -- either with someone chonky who can just eat the laser, or with someone fast who can trigger them and run away. Twisted laser does not target buildings unless they also can hit a hero.
