If you dump all your starting gear that actually gives armor on a single character he can solo hold choke points by the lake or by any tree really, and more scavenging is in general good money before you have unlocks for better crafting buildings.
Mana/health/1 movement starting omens don't really make sense if you can get something better.
+movement is pretty good. Makes planning turns a LOT easier.
clear sky is, specifically, good on this map since the mist spawns stupidly close and you won't have the seer building unlocked to push it back yet.
+damage is great. Early game it's often the difference between oneshot and 2shot, and is still a very solid bonus by the final night, doubly so with low oraculum progress meaning you won't have that many +dmg stats from other sources.
Eco omens are near useless until you unlock more buildings to actually make use of your excess money resulting from an earlier eco boom.
hp/mana are essentially useless.
These all give you power immediately. I believe you can buy Dexterity and Fieriness from Schaden early on and Wanderer IIRC unlocks from just buying heroes in the Inn so you should only need to do a handful of runs to get it.
Although Wanderer is a 3 slot omen, it is exceptionally powerful. Not only do you get an additional hero immediately, you also can now delay building an inn as well as not having to actually pay for the 4th hero (since you got it for free).
The only downside is further splitting hero EXP (4 heroes night 1 instead of 3), but this can be easily covered by picking up a couple of +% exp perks and/or secondaries while leveling.
If you don't have access to Wanderer yet: Go with Sturdiness and Tainted Harvest. It's fine to waste a slot just to earn some extra essence if you are on your first few runs.
For the last slot, go Swiftness but you should try to unlock Omen of Leaps to replace it ASAP.
Omen of Leaps is significantly better than Swiftness and costs the same amount of slots. In order to get it, IIRC, you need to move 20 tiles in 1 turn with 1 hero.

The above guide is geared towards apocolypse 4+ (where everything costs more) but is fully viable for difficulties below that. Just keep in mind if you follow the build orders that you'll be able to do things faster as things will be a bit cheaper.
All maps should take +Accuracy. Most of the similar one-pointers are also very strong picks on any map. +Damage, +Crit, +move, +dodge all give substantial boosts especially for those early nights that keep being useful and only cost one omen point.
