Anyone managed to beat it on first try?
I have never seen a game be so intuitive and balanced.
The entire time i was a hair away from screwing up, always unsure if i will make it.

Mostly because i had no idea how you are supposed to damage the bosses, or the existance of the Inn. I was lucky to unlock it early.

I'm not sure why it shows #2, i guess the tutorial counts as one...

I beat the 1st 2 maps within 1 go by starting from scratch.
LakeBurg boss caught me by surprise because I never seen it before.
So few times ALR-F4 and reposition a bit at day time , then beat it.

Havent. My First run I was so close got to the last dryad. But was unlucky on the spawn. My melee was up top and he got only 1 spawn on his side. Sadly lost. Ill try again.

Yeah last harpy i had to lure it to the centre of the willage to get it, i was completely out of mana.

I got the mining town and the lake town on first try. Got completely blindsided at the forest town and lost there (RIP 6 hours of progress), got used to rain death from watchtowers only for the bosses to require my heroes to run out instead. Had to do a suicide charge on the last spawn, only one of them managed to reach it and he's out of mana so he couldn't kill it before the horde caught up with him.

Redone it and beat it easily with strategically placed teleporters and high mobility heroes. Currently doing the very ominously named fourth town, halfway through so far. Every night is a struggle bc starting heroes all suck, but that's just life.

If you quit the game by "main menu" the game will save.
Which means you can't retry the whole night.

I use alt F4 because I very sure the last save is at the end of day.
So the only thing I can do is slightly reposition, or buy some item if i still keep any gold

If i knew how to buy more heroes sooner instead of the right before the last wave, 100% would have beaten it. but it didn't tell me how to buy heroes :(

I managed to beat the first town on the first try but just lost on the second one at 2/3. I don't know if waves are random but I had large mutants which stun you by throwing rocks on the last night so couldn't defend some fronts with just one unit because they just stun the defender and overwhelm the defense.

Mostly because i had no idea how you are supposed to damage the bosses, or the existance of the Inn. I was lucky to unlock it early.
The requirement to unlocking an inn is to survive until a certain day in the first town (I think it was 4 out of 7). So it has nothing to do with luck. They managed to balance unlocks very close to the point when you need them. There will be several unlocks in the second town too where if you use them as soon as you unlock them you have much easier time than if you unlock them but don't use (For example, I spent all my workers before I built a seer so didn't push the fog away right after unlocking it and enemies in the next night started just two squares away from my walls. It was a very difficult battle).

If you used ALT+F4 then you didn't do it on the first go. The surprise when you get into the unknown is what gets you on the first try. If you check the battle and then just retry it is not exactly the same as going blindly and managing to survive it anyway.

What didn't tell you how to buy heroes? You must have skipped reading it when you unlocked it because it does tell you that you can buy them in the Inn when you unlock it. I remember I've read about being able to hire a hero as soon as I started the first town because uncompleted unlocks are also displayed in a list so I just waited for the requirement to complete and bought them as soon as possible. And it is hard to miss the button that lets you buy a hero because it appears both in the inn and on commander's panel in a list of your actions for the day. I recommend reading about all things that you unlock right when you unlock them (or maybe even right when they appear in the list so you can check if you need to focus on certain requirements) instead of just quickly clicking Unlock and then forgetting to build or check them.

I've beaten the first map on the first try on clean save (just returned after a year or so), though it was sweaty. I didn't expect harpies to work like that at all and I almost lost two heroes, plus my walls were surrounded as all hell. The only way I won was because the last harpy spawned in the range of wand hero and near a melee hero with a sword and a move of 12 - his damage and accuracy sucked so all but 2 ap were spent on just clearing a path to that harpy and weirdly stepping 1 tile closer 1 tile farther to gain more momentum for the sword kill eventually. Another turn and I would've probably lost.

Lake map I'm at night 10 currently and it's very easy for some reason so far. I know that the boss is not dryads here since they were moved to the third map way back when, but I hope that new one will be beatable. Just got me a hero with insane poison damage which I capitalised on (druid staff's bee sting gives 127 poison damage now).

Beat the first map first try, hadn't seen the boss (or even knew bosses were a thing, to that scale anyway xD.. and my last hail mary was to nuke the last harpy and hope it ended and thankfully it did lol. Second map absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me though cause I had started with short ranged weapons I wasn't used to (scepter and hand crossbow) and I accidentally grapeshot my melee guy in the first night xD.. poor guy didn't stand a chance

oh i'm doing the second map right now, and honestly i just spam balistas and removed the walls, if you put teir 1 wooden walls in front of them they still kill everything.

Waves spawn and instantly die, including the big boys.

It will be funny if boss dies to this too :D

IMO on first run ALT+F4 is fine, especially since you dont know the very basic things, for example i built 3 gold mines without realizing i need workers to make gold, so they went idle for several nights...

I havent used it on second map yet, but maybe i was lucky with my choices, i am all in balista spam... even heros get xp from them

Yeah, it is fine, it doesn't matter how someone plays. I am just saying it doesn't count as a first try which OP asked about because these were several tries of the same battle.

for example i built 3 gold mines without realizing i need workers to make gold, so they went idle for several nights...
Mines give both passive and active income. Check their description, they give some income at the beginning of the day (25/day without upgrades) and you can also activate their ability by spending workers. Crafting works the same way. Buildings provide one item for free at the beginning of the day and you can also spend workers to craft more. Same with the buildings that increase max hp and mana daily. They increase it at the beginning of each day and also have an active abilty which requires workers.

I actually recommend checking all buildings and their abilities and possible upgrades. There are a lot of things that can be missed if someone just rushes or is overwhelmed by information at the beginning and then forgets to check those things again.

I havent used it on second map yet, but maybe i was lucky with my choices, i am all in balista spam... even heros get xp from them
For heroes to get xp from them they must have a special perk taken. Otherwise exp is just wasted. I am not sure how it works though. If all exp collected by ballistas is given to everyone with a perk or if it is shared among all of them.

You can even put tier 2 wooden walls before them. Or you can build advanced ballistas which can shoot from behind even the stone walls (but they cost a lot more).

I cleared first map on first go. Agreed it felt tuned perfectly. Hard enough to remain engaged and on your toes but not silly.

2nd map i made to night 10 and got swamped, fell behind on construction, built a hero really badly, and had 2 of my core guys stuck on level 2 weapons lol. Entirely my bad.
