Say you have a hypothetical choice between 30 armor or 15 block and during an enemy turn 3 enemies attack you for 20 points of damage each (for a total of 60 damage)
With 30 armor, you mitigate 30 damage and take the remaining 30 points of damage.
With 15 block, you mitigate 45 damage (blocking 15 points for each of the 3 attacks) and take the remaining 15 damage (5 damage getting through the block for each of the 3 attacks). At 20 block you would take no damage at all.
