then again the game tries its hardest to make us care for park which kinda worked until she told us her backstory which made me say "F U C K T H I S B I T C H"
Seriously I absolutely hated her. Just the way she assumes that all the kids will have no futures because they enjoy being with their family at the orphanage. It's so self centered of her, and she failed her dream so she's basically putting it all on Haruka. Yakuza 5's ending as a standalone worked well I thought, since Haruka ended her story the way she wanted, not just because Mirei saw her younger years in her and wanted her to become what she couldn't be. And then they kinda ruined that at the start of 6. I love 6 but hated what they did with Haruka.
But anyway. the orphanage might have been a road block for the kids in there according to her, but if any of them really wanted to follow their dreams of becoming something, then nothing was stopping them. Not everyone wants to be the most important person in the world. Spoilers for Yakuza 6 ending: It was super satisfying seeing them all end up at the orphanage again, and happy. It absolutely cr@ps on what Mirei wanted for Haruka and I love it.
Glad to see people agree with my thoughts of Park. I remember reading people talking about her on reddit when these games released on PS4 trying to say she got good when you found out about her history, but it just made me like her less. Nothing about her introduction made sense to me. She came off as a ♥♥♥♥♥ the whole way through. Her history just made her seem even more predatory and manipulative than her introduction did when I knew nothing about her.
I mean heck, Saito was the most memorable Yakuza 4 villain (arguably more than main villains) because of how unlikable he was. His whole character revolves around him being a prick.
Yeah they are really weird. Handshake event is filled with bunch of creepy grown ass-men perving over a 15 year old teenager. The fans have show are ever other kids/teens just grown ass-men. Hearing people say that this actually accurately depicts the Idol culture Japan is fucked up. The hell is wrong with these grown ass-men?
And I thought American celebrity fan culture was messed up.
Good thing I at least like the gameplay. I pretty much always beeline for Karaoke minigames in all Yakuza games.
Oh and I agree that Park is absolutely awful. I hated her from the moment she was introduced and she just keeps getting worse. The orphanage kids have no future because they are getting a really happy upbringing with a caretaker that really cares and loves them? The fuck kind of logic is that and how the hell did Kiryu end up buying it?
The whole premise of Kiryu leaving the orphanage bugs me.
Generally the point with Park was that Haruka would not be able to make her career if people ever figured out that she was raised by one of the most prolific and well known Yakuza that has ever existed; which is true and a statement based on her own experiences having been married to Majima when she was trying to start her own career.
still an insufferable ♥♥♥♥♥ tho
It is even worse than that.
Park knew very well that the career of Haruka was doomed to fail Park retired after her background became public and no matter how much Park pretends, no way she could have prevented the Yakuza connection of Haruka becoming public knowledge.
And when you think about the events of Yakuza 6 where Haruka is basically chased out of town by the tabloid press and has to hide in a small town is also the fault of Park due to that.
It doesn't even matter that Haruka said at the concert, the bottom feeders of the gutter press would have found out sooner rather than later either way and there ain't no way Park couldn't have seen it coming.
I'm honestly so relieved in finding so many people sharing the same opinion as me on here regarding her. On Reddit it seems everybody else thinks the contrary, and I gave up discussing it on there lol. It's funny because when I look back at the series after playing all the mainline titles and some of the sideline ones, there was no particular character that I disliked. Some characters were written better than others sure, and even though some of the antagonists were written to be hated, you couldn't help but like a bunch of them, like Lao Gui from 0. Or Toru Hirose from 6. Or Mine from 3, or Goh hamazaki and his redemption arc from 3 to 4. But with Mirei, I just absolutely hate her. The only positive that came out of that entire ordeal is Harukas family growing, by having a child and Yuta but with the sacrifice of the entire orphanage losing their father figure.
It was Harukas fault for mentioning Kiryu by name during her speech, but all of it was ultimately Mirei's fault for making Kiryu feel like sh!t and acting like none of the kids wanted regular lives and that Kiryu was somehow holding them back from all becoming celebrities or some sh!t. Every single person on reddit I've argued with says that Kiryu was holding them back. Like... how? For being a father figure in their lives when they have nobody? Would these people rather have Kiryu be a horrible and abusive caretaker? lol
