The truth about the British Museum Safe Bug - Explained - (hints, maybe spoilers)

First off, you DO NOT need to reset the safe. If your safe is not resetting, it is NOT a bug.

If you were like me, you have tried every explanation of this puzzle, even some bizarre ones, but to no avail and are thinking there must be a bug. There is no feedback from Watson when you try to pull the latch, no indication you have or don't have everything you need to solve it, and something isn't making sense. The truth is you can TECHNICALLY still figure this puzzle out (so turn back now if you want to keep trying), BUT you are correct: you do not have all the information for the puzzle originally and there is a "bug". HOWEVER, the bug is not listed anywhere except this post.

Based on yt guides I found after completing the puzzle, it turns out that older versions of the game have a different overlay of the safe than the steam version. With the original overlay, you will have more information, and the puzzle is more possible to figure out. The "trick" that seems to be at play in the latest steam version, does not exist in the original.

After I pined having to look up the answer, which like I said, could still be figured out if you took more time and practically ignored some of the information given in the puzzle, I felt if something was labeled differently, the puzzle makes more sense. Turns out, it's true. So, here it is. This is not a solver, this is more of a hint, and it was in the original game, I have no idea why it would be missing from the steam version;

The 90 on the 4 dials is on the North side of the circle. In the original, 90 is on the North and a 90 is on South of each dial. I have uploaded a picture.
