Black Screen on launch - immediate (not permanent) fix

I was having trouble getting a black screen when launching Monster Train in Windows 10. I was able to get to the Task Manager and End Task Monster Train but no matter how many times I re-launched it, it would be a black screen.

Here's the 1 easy step I took to fix it immediately, though not permanently:
After I End Task Monster Train, I scroll down in Task Manager to find Game Bar and End Task it. Monster Train will launch properly now.

Unfortunate that I need to do this occasionally, but it's a 5-second fix so it's much less of a hassle for now.

Im on a new computer with win11 and every other time I launch it goes black screen and I have to reboot, since cursor get stuck on loading animation. Solution I found was to verify integrity of game files, but its not permanent tho 8( Now I just do that after every session lol

Happened to me today, only solution: i had to sign out after CTRL + ALT + DEL

Had this problem today.

Eventually I updated my video drivers and reinstalled the game, then it launched normally again.

Spoke too soon, 2 days later I run into the same problem again, black screen on launch.

Strange solution I found that works for me so far:

- Start the game -> black screen
- Start the Shut Down computer sequence via the windows-key -> Cancel it as soon as that option comes. This closes the game, but not your Windows operating system.
- Start the game -> Now it work normally.

Ok. This is strange. The above post is right. I did not even have to start the "close computer" tip. Just hitting the windows key, minimized the game and it started up. I still hope there will be a more viable solution. Thanks for the tip, Michael.

This worked for me aswell, this issue is so annoying, but I guess this solution will have to do...

I know this might be an almost dead topic, but I have been starting to get the same problem - black screen on start in like 9 out of 10 attempts.
I noticed that pressing Windows key when the game starts to load fixes most of crashes for me, still this is just a temporary fix. Alt-tab while launching the game did not have the same effect though.
Still waiting for the proper fix from devs.

I was having this problem as well, and found myself needing to end the game in task manager.
I'm fairly certain this is caused by the Xbox game bar. Because after ending both the Xbox app and game bar in task manager, no more freezing.
If you're having this problem, check if your Xbox app is running. And if so, end it before relaunching the game.
