In conclusion I'd say the dlc has some decent value as a whole if you have played the base game a hell lot and you truly need more/different challenges and a little extra content. The achievements thankfully don't need the dlc. (for those caring for them)
I'd only activate the dlc after I am bored with the base game and maxed out the covenant ranks at the very least. But hey that's just me.
That said, on the whole I greatly prefer having the DLC over just the base game. The base game was a lot of fun, but the additions of the DLC (new clan, Pact Shard system (especially fusing units), etc.) heavily expand your options and have kept me engaged for much longer than the base game alone would have.
While there are some people that hate the DLC, the general consensus of long time players is heavily positive toward the DLC.
