If you want it to work in Hellhorned, you probably want Furnace tap + Superfood Primordium. This will let you continuously stack multistrike on your DPS, which will provide the necessary scaling to blow out the waves. Just make sure you have a way to safely deploy onto your intended floor without your DPS or Primordium immediately dying to Divinity at high shards.
A lot of classes can work in the challenge if you try though. If you went Melting/Umbra for example, a well played Dark Calling Rector tends to wreck this challenge. If you see Crushing Demise, it guarantees minibosses aren't a problem, and duped Enforcer infusion with quick/Multistrike provides ample DPS for waves and ending the boss. Also has a strong early game, as starting Dregs benefit from the challenge bonus and do a great job of contesting waves. Shadesplitter is better than Plink for the same reason. Here's an example run ending at 415 shards, Pyre only got touched on Ring 4.

Edit: Definitely watch Gabriot's video linked below if you want to pursue the Sweeper strat, as it's a perfect example of how to run it. In fact, if you need examples of the other Expert challenges, there should be a video for each one on Gabriot's channel. Nate and Narninian should also have videos for these as well if you want to compare strategies.
I had a lot of damage shield but barely any spells to buff the damage of my sweep unit through the promordium so I failed with this overall strategy using Awoken as the second clan.
