Holdover and offering
Thought I had tried this on a run in the past and it didn't work, but seems like it should. If you put holdover on an offering card and discard it (so it is instead "played"), does the holdover work?

Almost every combination you imagine doesn't work in this game. So give up.

This is good life advice in general.

*Bad.

Persistence pays off. Successful people have failed more times than you've even made the attempt.

Well, from a game play perspective, wording is key. Coming from a past professional TCG player, if could be argued that the card wasn't played, it was "offered".

True. So as long as you don't persist in making the same mistakes.

The fact that multiple people didn't get the joke kind of worries me. It seems that "just give up on everything in life" seems like a reasonable enough course of action to them to take it seriously.

The wording is explicit, leaving no room for misinterpretation: the card is played instead of being discarded. With that out of the way, there are other ways to make holdover not work. For example, it may require that the card is actively played by the player, not by any other action. So based on the wording as it is, holdover should work. If it doesn't it is either a bug or there is a hidden mechanic like in my example and it should be made clear to the player.

Does it work or not though? We don't know for sure as even OP isn't sure and I don't think I have tried this myself. I will try it out and see.

well i did not test it but i think it would count as regulary played card hence holdover will also trigger. i remember testing this with consume and it was consumed even tho originally discarded.

I remember it working, but perhaps i'm wrong.

It works I’ve done it before

I literally just tried this seconds ago, and no, it does not work.

However, if you put consume on a card and use it as an offering, the consume will trigger.
