I'm at ascension 20 with the three original characters of slay the spire, and I'd definitely say that you get your moneys worth from Monster Train in terms of challenges.
Even if you find certain combinations too easy, you can always try to beat the game on higher difficulties with combinations you consider harder :)
(I have not played the latest beta, so I can't speak for it in terms of difficulty though)
Both games get more difficulty once you start unlocking difficulty modifiers that's where the challenge is.
Also, considering you already played STS and that both games have a lot in common, it's obvious that Monster Train will feel easier since a lot of your experience will transfer from one game to another.
And I'll second the argument that some StS experience is transferable to MT so it might feel easier for an StS veteran than StS felt at the start.
I think, it balanced more around high Covs, so you can use more different cards.
Also, Monster train gives more info for a player, so you can start preparing your deck to the final fight even before 1st battle.
I agree.
The events are also all beneficial.
It´s fun anyway. It´s a good mix, what I miss is a larger run, like it could be easily be double.
