Either Frostbite is overpowered, or other base spells are underpowered.
Love the game, but whenever frostbite enters the picture, it seems foolish to not try and spec it out. No, I don't win every time with frostbite, but it seems to make every game win-able.

Same can be said about Spell Weakness. Or Stealth. Or any other mechanic that scales well - they are only good as long as you can make use of them.

depends on the saraph you get, the halve buff/debuff says HI to a frostbite build.

There is a downside to frostbite: It doesn't deal damage until the end of the turn. So compared to direct damage spells, it can't kill an enemy unit before it attacks that turn.

Direct damage spells often have the advantage that they can take out an enemy before it does its thing. (also the multiplier / scaling through spell weakness stacking is possible)

Frostbite is easy to scale to high damage against bosses and even small amounts are usually enough to take out the low-HP backline units. It may struggle with taking out tanky non-boss units though except maybe with a Tethys on pure frostbite single-target upgrade path (at bottom floor, since each floor the enemies have to climb is one more tick of frostbite).

Frostbite outclasses every other mechanic without needing much to work. I have beat buff/debuff seraph with it in cov 20+ without much trouble. And the artifact that gives +2 frostbite and prevents it from decaying feels like cheating.

Sap says hi. Of course everything mentioned in this thread is a stygian mechanic so it's pretty clear what everyone thinks of stygian.

Thats probly cause going down that path flushes your biggest asset down the toilet.
