While this game does render in ultrawide, there are a few little glitches associated with it:
Movies and the titles screen are vert- so the top and bottom of the image is cut off.
Actual gameplay doesn't cut off any screen information but certain screens that aren't designed for 21:9 are wonky. Like, the snow effect on the overworld screen doesn't look right.
Doesn't seem like a big deal so far but I'd like to see this stuff touched up.
We did do a survey and validated with steam hardware survey on the % of widescreen monitors and they were very few at the time. To remove the black bars and really tune everything to the widescreenformat (UI etc) it was just not making sense considering we had so much other cool stuff to develop that would impact the experience of way more people. Then is comes down to making choices, because we dont have unlimited resources.
I honestly haven't noticed anything wrong with the experience.
Maybe there's something that I haven't seen since I never really compared it to what it would look like when in 16:9 but honestly I don't think it matters.
The game automatically worked at my native resolution with zero tweaking on my part.
That's a win in my book.
I just switched back to 2560x1440 and it's fine. Not a big deal either way.
