Impossible Promise to Keep

As part of contract renewal negotiations with one of my top players, I promised to assign him as a free kick taker. He's the best in the team and I used him frequently already so I thought it'd be a piece of cake.

Couple weeks go by after he signed new deal and I noticed he "felt time was running out to fulfill promise'' with 11 days to go. He was already taking direct free kicks, but after this I made him take all free kicks, both direct and indirect. He's even scored and provided assists from them!

11 days later, wants to leave because I ''broke'' the promise. WTF!? He's assigned to EVERY free kick type and even takes corners. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME FM!?

I remember last year there was a bug that promises did not work. I thought they fixed it so it shouldn't of reared its head again. Make you have him and ONLY him taking everything but I guess you've already done that.

I see. Well FM 16 is the last one I played before getting back into it this year so I wouldn't know about last year's issues. Promises have been working just fine, this one being literally the first one I ''break''. Leftovers from last year I guess... I'll try removing all other takers next time and see how that pans out.

I was just then about to post a topic saying the exact same thing.

I've given my star player a new contract with the promise that he takes free kicks and penalties. I gave him those two promises when he signed and there were no issues as he has always taken all free kicks and penalties, but now two-and-a-half years later after renewing his contract with the same promises, he feels time is running out to assign him as free kick taker.

My initial theory was that because he was already free kick taker, he hasn't been 'assigned', so I've just tried removing him, forwarding the game, and then re-adding him, which might work after a few more matches. But that doesn't explain why he's happy that the penalty promise is being fulfilled and the free kick one isn't.

Are there any solutions to this bug? It's my tenth season and I'm loving this save having taken Cambridge from League Two into the Champions League, but this has the potential to be a real game-breaker if my star player hands in a transfer request because of a bug.

I'm running out of time too because there are less than three weeks until the promise ends and he throws his toys out of the pram.


Did you find a solution Yoshi, and if not, what were the consequences?

They could of fixed this as you are in the 10th season then maybe you missed the patch so you would have to start another one to check but don't let this be a game breaker for you as it only affects 1 player. Just think of it as a training ground bust up and he had to go ie Stam, Keane or Van Nistilrooy...We loved them but they reached the end of the road.

Cheers for the reply, but I've seen comments online saying this bug has existed for years, and I think this patch is relatively new as I only started it in mid-February and it automatically downloads updates.

I'll keep playing the file regardless, and I might consider even going back in time as I have a saved copy of this file from a fortnight before he signed the contract. But obviously I don't want to do that as it would almost feel like cheating.

I know what you mean and the mod stated here that there aren't going to be many more updates for FM20 so at best your going to have to wait and look out for it in the next 1 :(

I think like the minority, we spotted something outside the ME that is broken and it hasn't been fixed yet but due to the amount of whinging that goes on about the ME...well .... :-/
