Utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ garbage. Shove the game up your arses. Terrible effort.
+ play touch
The overpowered defence splitting through balls is creating too many one on one chances. If someone has a team with fast players with great dribbling (but low composure or finishing) - it results in 30-60 shots at goal.
All my wingers and strikers have 17+ pace and accel. They have about 13 finishing and 12 composure (both wingers). Striker has 16 finishing and 14 composure.
With a team full of kids, I am 7th in Bundesliga (and we are touted to go down since we have a very young side). Difficulty is spot on.
However because of these engine issues, I am getting 30+ shots at goal. About 15 of them are on target. Also my side is actually the most accurate in the league, with 52% of shots on target.
We are however the lowest scoring side. Approximately 70% of my chances are CCC from one on ones. They are through balls or long balls where my strikers and wingers either dribble through defenders who cant defend, or they run past the cb's to get a one on one.
This happens for the human player AND the AI equally. There is no discrimination, any fast team, regardless of tactic - is getting loads and loads of one on ones.
It's not peoples tactics. The match engine is broken at the moment.
I’ve tried all types of defensive and attacking set ups and instructions. Yet the results are the same- 30 shots- 3 on target, missing loads of one on ones. The ball over the top to concede EVERY TME. Honestly this is the worst FM release in a long time.
Im not sure if this game last me to christmas even this year
I can also confirm that there is no AI/Player-Discrimination. When I played a cup game against an opponent from the first division (I played a team from the 2nd) I won 2-0. Also I won 1-0 against the leader of the league using a defensive tactic with counter attacks. But when I played against bad teams with a defensive tactic and counter attacks, I usually concede 4 to 5 goals. One game I had 27 Shots on the goal and had no goal, and the opponent had 4 shots and 4 goals.
In my experience, this would happen once, maybe twice per season. But this happened to me 5 times in a row now.
This is the most unrealistic match engine in years!
I feel ripped off!
I mentioned this before and somebody told me that those positive reviews were from before the patch. But I've been keeping an eye on the reviews section since last week and I've noticed something extremely suspicious. Most of the positive reviews are as long as 2-3 words and sometimes it's just an emoji. It also seems like they are being spammed, probably to push the review score towards positive.
If this is being done by SI, then it's disgusting behaviour and needs to be investigated by Steam.
I have actually suspected this myself, there is alot of suspicious reviews. But I thought in the beginning it was "fanboys". Ive noticed reviews like, "longshot manager, will play again" etc. And to be fair that is probably a real review alltough it doesnt say much.
I just dont belive anyone that has experience with this series or any new players find this edition better than any previous edition, or good. The ME is one thing, but it lacks in so many ways and the new features like the board mechanics etc really dont work.
A well written review with concstructive critisism of the negative experience the consumer has will only bring the game forward.
But I found it suspicious since I saw Miles Jacobsens tweet about the steam reviews, and read through alot of them. None at all over a sentence long. A serious game developer wouldnt brag about those reviews, most of all they try to avoid them
That is also the reason why steam is working on a feature to avoid those reviews
Another thing is the lack of amount of reviews, it has only about 5K. Its in the top 10 global top sellers and they usually have many times that. Halo has maybe 35K
If you want to be good on the pitch, you have to use players that can play in the position and role assigned AND be good enough as a team in the tactic.
Many variables WILL come into play such as team cohesion, locker room, tactic understanding, etc. As well as on the pitch shouts..
If you're losing by big numbers, there's something you're not doing well OR your opposition just outclasses you. You don't need to argue this post, I am right. I have played this long enough. Taken Dartford from bottom to premier, and I have learned this.

-- not those bugged ones from tight angles towards the goal though, which should be much harder than the average -- average once realistically patched should be 30/70 chances btw .
Also agreed about the OP Gegenpress super tactics possible. There's tactics possible that just pin any top opposition back into their own half, which shoulnd'T be the case. The AI doesn't have an answer for that. If you dominate the far too simple stats the game offers every game (plz iinclude xG SI or at least show how much percent are purely from the set piece), guess what. The only matches you are going to lose, like Pep G. for like the past five years running will be matches in which the opposition have far fewer shots. And that's gonna happen for as long as you cannot create a tactic which never concedes opposition shots. On FM it's further compounded by that the game simulates forwards getting frustrated if snatching on chances on the day -- and the opposition (keeper) growing in confidence if lasting the bombardment.
You don't and ever have. The belief the game works that way is sadly one of the reasons why they will never code the AI be too smart, sigh. That's why I'm trying to combat this. I want the AI to be much smarter. In particular at the very top. However, with smarter AI, the AI would appear even more "efficient". There's a certain kind of playing that makes it appear that way, which is different.
You see, you can only ever win matches with fewer shots if you aim to have fewer shots. The AI doesn't care about how many chances it has. Actualy, it concedes the shot battle to the opposition quite oftenly, as that can increase the chance of scoring / decrease the chances of the OP scoring. If the underdog, it plays more compact football that keeps space tight on their end and makes it harder to find superior shots. In the pursuit to one-up their shot counts on the spreadsheet, few even toy with such as ideas: https://community.sigames.com/topic/391460-park-the-bus/
It also changes things during the course of a match. It may take the lead and then simply sit back. It may make wholesale changes at HT if the scoreline isn't one it likes. After conceding, it may go more attacking. It may aggressively attack with but a few minutes to go. And so on. The AI does not care about the shots. It only cares about the scoreline.
In all of that it cannot read a match. It cannot react to what is specifically going on. Not even Guardiola would play more cautious on this as he cannot note how his aggressive lines would be exposed over and over again. That's why the tactical niche on this outperforms it massively on all accounts every single release. https://community.sigames.com/topic/494734-an-introduction-and-a-question-about-contextual-feedback-and-stats-in-the-game/?tab=comments#comment-12040707
The aim of football, same as the game is not to have the most shots possible. It is scoring goals. France won the WC with 11 shots average, barely half of Germany's. Leicester won the EPL having 13 shots average, conceding 13. Barca currently have no more than 12 shots average. Juve much the same. Pep's currently dropping points left and right despite having by far the most shots in the EPL much more than Liverpool. What the game should encourage players to manage was the spaces on the pitch, like the AI does in simple ways. And like any real manager would.
