My game won't launch, please help.
When I press play in steam it says running for about 10 seconds then nothing happens.
I have messaged sega support but they just said:

"Please delete the preferences and cache folders.

Deleting your preferences and cache as shown here:
https://support.sega.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/360003113957-How-to-PC-#preferences

Once that's done please verify the game cache of the game in Steam:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335"

I don't seem to have preferences and cache folders in program files/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2020, and I have tried verifying game files in steam but that didn't fix it. I have also tried uninstalling. I told this to sega but they have not responded for over a day now.

My PC specs are
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Processor: AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics (4 CPUs), ~3.9GHz
GPU: MSI R9 380
Memory: 8192MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 12

Any help would be appreciated.

You are looking in the wrong place for your preferences folders, they won't be stored with the game, they are stored with your account. Follow the path in the first link.

C:\Users\[Your Windows Username]\AppData\Local\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2020

Thanks for reply. I had tried that path first but there is no Sports Interactive folder there.

If they don't exist then the game definitely hasn't run before, have you rebooted your PC since this started happening? Because sometimes when a program crashes it stays in the background so that any other time you try to run it it just ignores you, you either have to close the process or reboot the PC.

Yes I bought the game a couple of days ago and have not been able to run it at all. My PC has rebooted several times since i first tried.
Your sys sounds kinda similar to 1 of my builds, Have you tried updating your graphics card recently?
JPAnderson1 Nov 22, 2019 @ 4:36am
Yes I actually reinstalled my Graphics card recently because I reset my PC to clear my HDD and change from windows 8 to 10, so it is fully updated.

have you tried verify integrity of game files?
JPAnderson1 Nov 22, 2019 @ 4:43am
Yes i have tried that a few times.

You could try to run the fm.exe file directly from the game's installation location. If it runs from there then the problem lies with Steam.

maybe try to update also DirectX maybe an error there.

I tried to run fm.exe from the game folder but the same thing happens when steam is open. If i try to run it when steam is closed I get an error message:

"Error

Unable to initialize SteamAPI.
Please make sure Steam is running and you are logged in to an account entitled to the game."

And I am sure my DirectX is up to date as well.

got the idea from this Football Manager 2020 is finally out on PC but despite that, there are a lot of technical issues. Football Manager 2020 is facing errors like DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_Removed, unable to initialize Steam API, crashing at launch and more.

just thought it could help a little

Sega finally replied with this:

"In order to troubleshoot the issue, please follow these steps and try running the game after each one:

1) Please ran the repair.NET tool:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/install/repair

2) Please set the game to ‘maximised borderless’ windowed mode and see if the same issue is still occurring:
- Open STEAM
- From your Library; Right Click on Football Manager 2020
- Click on Properties
- Click on SET LAUNCH OPTIONS…
- Add the following
- --no_exclusive_fullscreen
- Click Ok; Start the game again"

Neither of these steps worked :(

I tried turning off antivirus and running game as administrator as suggested in the link but that didn't work either.
