Crossplay + The majority of people play the game through gamepass.

Steam doesn't account for the entire playerbase. The game is very much alive lol.

Nope. I play PvE and I can find plenty of matches for both Horde and Escape. What is your point?

It's pretty fast to me. There is an option in the settings that allows you to opt in for faster matchmaking or lower ping. See if that helps you.
