That wasn't an invasion. That was just an escape from the labs. Myrrah's husband, fearing what experiments they (scientists) might do to their child, ran off with her and survived. Niles lied to Myrrah that they died to keep her there, "Underestimating Myraah's maternal feelings" (towards the locust). She broke them out of the lab and escaped with them, going underground of Mount Kadar where they established a living, away from humans.
Years AFTER that, when the lambent problem occurred she wanted to save her children (locust) from the lambent and contacted Adam Fenix to find a way. Adam kept it a secret from everyone and tried his best to do so, but it took too long and Myrrah decided that they can no longer wait and invaded the surface on E-day, to conquer it and then flood the underground tunnels, ridding the lambent. In Gears 2, we learned of this and flooded the tunnels BEFORE the locust could make it out, drowning both them and lambent. Of course this didn't eradicate neither of them and you know the rest.
This was all explained in the games. What the books and others added to this (that I know of, cause I don't have them either) was that at when Myrrah's patience was getting thin, General RAAM and Skorge advised invading the surface and taking it, and after taking command from SRAAK, the general at the time, they managed to convince Myrrah.
