Since WHEN does pressing L TRIGGER as in LEFT to AIM

cause you to SHOOT your weapon?!

Someone PLEASE for the love of God, it's SO annoying how do I make it stop doing this

There are literally zero gears games where pressing Left trigger to aim causes your gun to AIM AND FIRE at the same time. Makes sniping with controller literally impossible. What the actual f***.

And my control scheme is default so it's not that or switched it literally aims AND fires simultaneously, the F*ck?! How do I make it stop doing this!??

I literally just unplugged the controller and plugged it back and and am tapping left trigger and it SHOOTS & AIMS at the same time. WTF?!!?!?!

the only way I have been able to get it to stop is by BARELY, and I mean, FREAKING BARELY, holding down L at all, which is a NUISANCE. I don't WANT it to fire when I squeeze or whatever the hell that is supposed to be... it can frick off.. how do I turn that ♥♥♥♥ off srsly so annoying

if that's supposed to be some sort of 'feature' of the controller it feels more like a bug if you can't DISABLE IT

nothing in options/controls about this.

sometimes it just goes away on its own but it usually takes like at least 2 matches and sometimes comes back on its own, ffs

why not try a different controller? Maybe controller is busted? Maybe it's drifting? Maybe steam controller settings is doing it? Maybe a file is missing? When something feels off. I always verify game files to double check. Why not play with m&k? Aim with mouse to see if it still happens.

it doesn't happen with mouse,

and I play with controller because I have 3 entire games of Gears reflexes on controller,

not mouse and kb..

I have countless fps that I play on m + kb..

when I play Gears the cover shooter, my reflexes are with controller not m+kb, and that's what I want to play with. space bar instead of a button feels weird and not as smooth for me.

Good suggestions though.. it's not analog stick drift, its literally like I said the squeeze of left trigger to simply aim causes it to fire + aim which I just think is strange if that's supposed to be some sort of feature like who would want that lol it's terribly too sensitive, it seems to only do it in this and maybe one other game.

I would try another controller except the other ones I have all DO have analog stick drift, so, that's kind of out as an option..

but I could try it just to see if it does the left trigger shooting thing, that is a good idea.

But what I don't understand is where or why there's not a setting I can change so it won't do that anymore.

You may be on to something with 'steam controller settings' maybe I need to look at that..

: I just checked, there is nothing there I see :( I mean nothing that says anything remotely like what is happening or, 'squeeze gradually to fire' or anything, and not in game options either..

verify files can be good suggestion often enough, may try just for the heck of it but in this case I kind of doubt it is the problem since it's just a really weird behavior that it's 'squeeze to fire' on AIMING trigger, wtf, lol, but u barely have to squeeze it at all for it to trigger it.. really annoying and unplayable if u like to snipe lol

just thought to check 'xbox game bar' settings as well, even though that shouldn't matter lol, but a thought just in case, but didn't see anything...

Try one of your other controllers just to see if it is the controller. That's what it sounds like it might be.

It lets you test your controller inputs and you don't have to install anything. You'll be able to see if pressing the left trigger also triggers the right one. If so then it's the controller. Then you can try opening the controller and cleaning the triggers with some Alcohol and see if that helps. If it's an old controller there might just be some gunk built up.

well I did try using steam controller settings and when I tested all buttons on it they lit up/shown as normal,

the right trigger didn't light up when using the left one,

controller works fine, I think it's got to be some sort of weird optional feature with this controller or something that u squeeze aim more to fire, but there's nothing in any options i can find, and it only seems to occur in Gears 5 and maybe one other game..

I also tried unplugging and trying the other front usb port, no luck..

i mean yes i tried all except the link u sent because i did the same exact thing with steam controller settings, and tried all except validating files, they are validating now, will take a while cos gears 5 is alot of gb, but i just don't suspect that as the culprit, but it could be, i'll try it, but,

i didnt need to try with mouse to see that it doesnt do that with mouse but yes i did, and as i said have no interest in playing gears 5 with mouse,

i have cleaned controllers in a similar way to how u've described before but its not a trigger thats getting stuck its literally barely sensitive touch at all or it will fire while aiming so thats not it,

the fact is i can try a different controller but if all it does is show me this one is doing it and the other earlier model of same controller not doing it, wont tell me much i dont already know or fix anything; the fact is i havent tried my other ones yet because they all DO have analog stick drift so they are basically unusable anyway...

1 see above 2 its not busted 3 its not drifting, the others are which is why they wont do me any good 4 couldn't find any thing of the like in any settings anywhere steam / xbox / in game options 5 i doubt it but validating anyway 6 i already explained this in earlier post, no it doesnt happen with mouse, doesn't help me though

I'll let u know if verifying files did anything but i dont suspect it as a culprit considering the behavior, also tried other extra unused buttons on it, or in different combinations, to no avail

Like others have said try checking your steam controller settings which from above i assume you did

In Gears 5 double check what controller scheme you're using ALSO in options look under control remapping you or someone could have changed it so that it presses both aiming and firing at the same time

Do you have any type of third party program configuration that could be conflicting with the gamepad inputs or did any type of windows update perhaps and does this happen with any other game on PC.

i checked all of those things, and I just triple checked just now.

No, why would there be any need to use a program such as xpadder or any 3rd party thing for this game, it is literally supposed to be played with controller plug n play like the first gears from xbox 360... That is for something like playing metroid fusion on ur pc, lol...

I've even gone through each control scheme just now. None of them changed it,

that only leaves someone mentioned windows settings for controller, idek where that would be, nothing would have been changed, i just now looked at device manager and hit update drivers for xbox controller it said its already up to date latest driver for it from 2022...

i have tried everything i can think of at this point.. I dn't uderstand, it didn't used to do this before. it's like some weird thing for this controller where you can squeeze the left not just to aim but to fire but its way too sensitive and no way to turn it on or off or adjust it, apparently it seems, or even see it.. but if it didnt do it with this controller before idk why it does it now, it is not even mapped to do that... its only mapped to aim with left trigger.. idk if this is cause of some weird update to gears, or windows 10, or what, if its related to that ive no way of knowing, cos i dont remember where it started and if there was, etc..

i tried plugging into the other front usb port.. trying one of the ones on the back is probably all there is left to try at this point.. i doubt it will make a difference at this point.. probably just have to buy a new controller even though it is not like it is not working, it is literally mapped to aim not fire so why does it do both. and this is what i'm saying is strange about it; no it doesn't do this in ANY other game that uses L and R triggers for anything, not at all, only this, maybe one other game at most, but I don't remember what it is if there was one.

if your saying your pressing left trigger on a controller then it shoots as if your pressing right trigger to shoot, i would try another controller. i had this issue and its clearly my controller thats the issue as in need a new one/fix but not sure really whats going on here

Maybe it's the controller problem , i had a controller that i used for months and it fires itself when i didn't even press anything lol , may i ask what's the brand of your controller?

not really lol it ends up going away on its own sometimes for different stints of time before doing it again; best you can hope for in a game / set of games is that the more you hold it down / after a few games it starts to operate as it normally should. hopefully. lol

They are great; for 6-8 months, then, analog stick drift. lol every time. usually left stick.
I'm thinking of just getting like, a ps4, ps5? (controller) Maybe. Those both work usb with pc right? xD Havent used one much since ps2 lol
As, I was already thinking that & I've been told that other brands have the same problem too
