I just want to play the campaign.
Steam\steamapps\common\Gears5\GearGame\Content\B2
And deleting all the files that start with "MP_..." and "Versus_..." (possibly localized stuff for languages you don't use also?)
And please report back with if the game launched fine and you saw nothing missing/broken while playing, because I'd be curious to also delete those, 18 gigabytes is nothing to scoff at, I'd love to free up some space.
Isn't this a known issue? I'm surprised to be the first to discuss it here. Why would they enable an option on the gamepass version that isn't here.
I might try deleting one or two files, just putting them in the recycling bin, and see how that goes, if badly then just restore.
I did also delete every single MP file on my first test, but that did cause issues, to be fair, many say "MP_Shared_..." so they probably share files with SP stuff and are vital, so you shouldn't delete those, but you'll still have a black background in the menu if you delete the other MP files, so I just restored the rest of the MP_... ones.
Still, you can theoretically free up to 10-11 gigabytes of space without any issues I think, I'm going to still keep the versus files in a separate folder just in case, to see how it goes, but initial impressions are that the versus files are modularly separate enough from the SP content that you can delete those consequence-free.
I think it's safe to delete the "Customization" files as well? At least, I just deleted the two big ones, "characterskins lores" and "weaponskins lores" which were like 12 gigabytes in total together or something, game started fine, banchmark seemed fine, going to try resuming my checkpoint.
So, it seems it's safe to delete all the versus files and perhaps even customization files, I deleted only the two big ones, character and weapon skins lores, all that together over a whopping 20 gigabytes of free space that so far seems to not impact SP at all.
That's 28 gigabytes in total you could theoretically free up if you only care about MP stuff and maybe horde is in one of those other files.
I have gotten a black menu background now twice still, it's just very rare (started the game up multiple times over the last 2 days and played in short sessions when I've had the time, almost done with act 2, final boss).
Seems that maybe some of the versus files carry maybe like a multiplayer map file that when you load up the game it tries to load up as a background? But I think it doesn't matter, also you can always close the game and relaunch if you want something to load up there, it'll randomly try to load something anyway, but that's about it, otherwise everything still seems to be fine.
