Gears 3 gave out a lot of stuff, with gold weapons only being had thru exclusive codes, or by hitting certain achievements in past games. I had all the gold weps in Gears 2, so 3 just gave them to me, carried over. Certain things had to be earned by playing the previous games.
Gears 5 gave my a week of boosters... Ephemeral at best. the 4,000 coins made unlocking Myrrah easy, but where my boi Kim?
Gears 5 is the 1st gears i didn't pre-order. I liked 4 well enough, but idk.
Just getting into 5 over the holidays. Runs pretty well on my aged 980ti.
Oh, not a fan of the micro transactions. But that's normal these days.
I am absolutely glad i waited to buy then. 4 was okay, but it was missing a lot of wide content i was used to with the EPIC games versions. Long time Gears fan since the 360 launched, and picked this up for, what, $8 during a midweek madness sale?
First one was golden. Map design, emphasis on round based permadeath, simplicity of it all. It was beautiful. It's not that anymore. Maps can be kind of trash although they look nice. Campaign is shockingly short. It's not close to what made it so interesting 15 years ago.
They tried to trick people into thinking he was playable in campaign by putting him on the original cover too.
For everything else its the same gears too me: Multiplayer just running around with shotguns and 1 shoting everyone, if you like that its there just like all the other ones. So are all the flashy skins that put COD up for its money. Horde mode is what i usually play and its good enough to keep you playing. Has about 3 modes for that, classic, frenzy and just a shorter version of the regular horde. Escape mode? Honestly its cool, has replay value but for me i dont really care for it. Just like horde but instead of defending your escaping.
Overall i give this game a 7/10. I didnt hate it at all but then again i only paid $10 for this so why would I lol
Gears 5 has one of the best coop campaign for 3 players i have ever played
Well actually is one that works "Quit to desk Top"
hilarious that the game is so dead they had to bring it to pc as part of microsofts "incentive to pc players". how about going back to the roots that made the game special and listening to the community that plays your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ games.
The major issue with this game since Gears 2 is the wall bounce and/or slide cancel. The issue may not necessarily stem from the mechanic itself, but they have not refined it at all. It still looks as stupid as it did in Gears 2, because they did not provide the animations or transitions necessary to make the system work. Plus, they have never fixed their latency, and part of the issue is when people cancel movements, that gets pinged to the server, and the 9 other players need to be updated on what the other players are doing.
The clunky movement, plus the cancelling without any animations to inform players logically (characters are doing impossible movements in this game, breaking immersion and realism, yes realism, no, big guns and aliens doesn't mean you can forget about realism, that is a lazy excuse, characters are undergoing huge amounts of G force to perform these moves), and the inability to make decent server connections to fit 10 players (now 8) makes this game just awful and unrewarding for the intelligent and decent human beings of society to play, hence the reviews and the playerbase.
never seen a game struggle so hard to tune one shotgun. never had issues with shotguns in Battlefield or DOOM or any other game.
Can you imagine if this game tried to have gun customization like Gears Tactics? God help them. They can barely manage the stock weapons.
Awful PvE balancing, the mark of a bad studio and lazy developers is when their version of increased difficulty is more HP, and more DMG for the enemies.
TC comes off as incredibly lazy here. Their solutions to things is to placate and cater to the worst part of their fanbase and they are killing this game. The majority of players do not know what they want, game devs ought to change things and shake the system. TC is playing it far far too safe. I.E. the new God of War. or the birth of games such as Street Fighter II (There were no games prior to inform Capcom how to even make 2D fighting games, and no shmuck could have told them how to).
The consumer is not right because the consumer doesn't even know what it wanted in the first place.
Amateur game dev reviving a dead game franchise for MS to make quick cash. TC is a place game devs go to retire in their career, when they are dispassionate about game dev, and just want easy pay.
They DID give loyalty rewards. The issue was you HAD to be active the year following Gears 5. There was a set of challenges called "The Road to Gears 5", and those challenges included stuff such as having an achievement in every gears game to get certain skins in Gears 5, but quite a few of the challenges were focused around Gears 4 challenges + achievements and included weapon skins such as Gilded (Golden Skins)
