Is it really that bad?
Im seeing alot of hate towards this game in terms of the lancer being op then saying gnasher is op (stop saying everything is op cause they will just give u nerf guns and no one will take damage), ive played gears since day 1 moved to pc few years back and now 5 is on here, im just curious to if this is a buy or wait for sale game, on one hand i would like to buy the game cause i miss gears not many games fit that gears feeling, on the other alot seem to be saying its too buggy and isnt worth the price tag.

Wouldnt mind a few honest thoughts on the game (If i see one person mention micro transactions or your not rewarded for your time responses, bare in mind its a game not a softball kids game where everyone needs a reward)

Thanks in Advance!

I've not played MP yet, only campaign

But trust me, no matter how balanced a games MP is.. You'll always have someone saying "OP this, nerf that"... Always.

Especially on places like Steam.

waiting for coaltion to add soft toys at this point due to the constant "this is op" posts.

I never understood the "nerf this" part of it either.

If something is unbalanced, better to buff the other weapons then to nerf one particular weapon into the ground and make it useless.

(off topic) yer i play war thunder and ♥♥♥♥ in that gets nerfed which ironically makes stuff that was slightly op then broken...

The only down side to having Gears 5 on platforms like steam is the community. There are some things that for sure could do with some changes in terms balance don't get me wrong but there are players that will take it way out of proportion and then go into the reviews and say things like "BAD GAME (x) IS SO BROKEN DON'T BUY". I really wouldn't worry about those kinda comments. I for one love the game which may be slightly biased as it my favourite franchise of all time. I would definitely say its worth full price!

people been complaining on the 'gears community' forums, since gears 4 came out, way way before gears 5 on steam forums. They complained about "hitboxes", "gnasher only meta", "Lancer op", "nerf hammerburst", "gears 1 - 3 are so much better" and they are still talking about the same things with gears 5.

This wave of negativity is what comes along when a new team/company develops the same game people have loved for years. e.g. everyone loved halo 1 - 3, but when 343 stepped in and made halo 4 and 5 everyone just complained, however the playerbase is still going strong for 5. The love for the original games are obviously so strong that companies remaster halo and gears 1 and people flock to it. there will always be hate on the new successors of original games and the people who develop it. In my honest opinion, gears 5 is not bad and is actually pretty good

Weapons are just fine, let things settle down and wait for some balancing if you must but in reality everything is in a pretty good spot weapon wise, people just love to complain.

Ya I would agree, been trying the game out under Game Pass

So far, seems like a solid entry into the series.

Enjoying it a lot more then I did with Gears 4, was disappointed with that one for the most part, especially the campaign.

i had thought the complaining was just yet again "entitled" gamers just finding a reason to complain, reason i said i dont care for micro transaction issues is cause they dont impact the game itself just the monentaztion (man my english sucks today) of the game which sucks but its 2019 its gonna happen, next month destiny 2 shadowkeep is coming out and thats gonna have greed transactions cant escape that fact.

as for gears 5 itself im really intreasted in the story horde (escape looks kinda oddly cool?) mp i can really take it or leave it...

I haven't played MP yet or looked at the monotisation methods.. Gave the store a quick look over and it looks better then 4's anyway

Which isn't saying much, Gears 4's monotisation was pretty awful

I just wish I could play as my boi carmine, the gears 1 version.

I recommend the $2 gamepass deal on pc. That way you can see for yourself. For me it's nit that bad at all and a few QOL features and patches from being really good

Based on what i've seen, these were majority of the complaints ( aside from chinese players review bombing the game, they even review bombed the ultra hd texture pack lmao brain dead people )

*Technical Issues
*Progression System ( Grindy )
*Battle Pass rewards ( Mediocre )
*Lack of OG characters and fan favorites on Multiplayer
*Mind numbing scoreboard screen on every wave completion

Mostly features that were praised are key aspects on wherein Gears 5 improved than its predecessors.

*Graphical improvements from Gears 4 to 5
*Gunplay feels more impactful and weighty than Gears 4
*Longer campaign than any gears title ( semi open world, side missions )
* " Story telling " and facial animations seems to be top notch than any game that i've seen besides Devil May Cry 5.
*On what you expect from a Gears game, gore and headshots or OHK still felt satisfying.

If you can cope up with those cons that i've mentioned above, then go for it. If not, i suggest to just wait after 3 months so that issues like those are more likely has been fixed and new characters launched already.

Plus a whole bunch of other games to try out too.

Just remember to turn off the Auto Renew guys, otherwise Microsoft will charge you again in a month.
There seems to be a trend or a preference towards longer time to kill among the younger generation in multiplayer games. Gears 5 has extremely high damage across the board on every weapon. You can get evaporated in an instant. A lot of players, especially casual Gears fans or new players alike, tend to forget this is how the game always was and Gears 5 has brought the Lancer up to speed with the Gnasher. Instant death, downs, etc. is perceived is cheap. It's confusing to new or unskilled players when they die instantly. This, in my opinion, explains the "this gun is op" or "that gun is op" daily posts you are seeing. These posts are knee jerk reactions from players who have little understanding of the games mechanics.

Now, since you stated that you do not care about cosmetics (neither do I), nor do you care much for multiplayer you should be in for a good time. Campaign is a fun romp, escape is neat, and horde is fun if you're into wave based survival stuff (I am not). I would highly recommend multiplayer as it is one of the better iterations in the series; if you are not a fan of modern multiplayer shooters, but were into them let's say 10 - 20 years ago you'll have a good time.

Edit: As for bugs - most of them are not game breaking. Maybe a character jiggles on the victory screen or something. The largest issue is that depending on your rig you may need to use either the newest driver or roll back to the previous for the game to function. There does not seem to be any logic to which one your rig will use. This is Nvidia's fault by the way, just like it was for Gears 4. I know that won't stop people from reviewing the game negatively, but I'm just saying for what it's worth since you seem reasonable.

Ive been a gears fan since the first release on Xbox, Im enjoying this game so far, much better than gears 4 and Judgment. I just wished it had more characters ( like Baird, Cole, Carmine, and more ) for multiplayer.
