its up to you. there is cross platform play so it doesnt really matter but if you want micro transactions or redeem codes like the rockstar stuff you might want to get it from the microsoft store because steam has many reported problems and issues with that sort of stuff on the steam version

i actually buy right now the rise esports skin in microsoft, i lunch the game in steam and i havent the skins so :'c what can i do ?

I think you might have to launch the xbox or the windows 10 store version of gears 5 i only guess this because any code i've redeemed via microsoft store through hotmail i wasn't able to get the item unless i launched the non steam version of this game rock star codes / ice kait skin / codes in general

you might have to buy the windows/xbox version, and redeem it there. I think you can get a refund depending on how much time you have on it

did you disable overlay on steam?
if so, enable it because i had the same problem. once i had it on, i can finally buy stuff again
