Gears 5 Q&A Mega Thread (Release times, Crossplay, Play Anywhere, etc)

A lot of questions have been thrown around the community hub, so I'm going to condense all the information into this thread so people will find it easier to know what's going on.

Do steam Ultimate Edition players also play early?

Yes, you can play on the 5th September at 6pm PT. Steam uses a global release instead of regional like the Microsoft Store

When can I start playing?

Ultimate Edition Players can start playing September 5th 9pm your regional time. (If yo uare in the USA, then the game will be available at 9pm ET

Standard Edition will be September 9th 9pm, same as above with regional time.

Will I keep all Ultimate Edition DLC if I start playing with the Ultimate Game Pass, then purchase the regular Edition through steam?

Yes! The extra characters given through the Ultimate Edition are activated as a License on your Xbox account, so you will keep those characters even when your Game Pass runs out and you purchase the game on steam after. Source - https://clips.twitch.tv/AbrasiveLittleCattleCharlieBitMe

Do I need to Purchase the Ultimate Edition to have use the Terminator Skins?

The Terminator Skin pack is available to everybody who pre-orders, or plays Gears 5 before September 16

Do I need to Purchase the Ultimate Edition to have use the Halo Reach Skins?

Does the Steam Version have Crossplay?

The Steam version and Windows Store version are both under the PC part of crossplay, and can play with each other as the game uses your Xbox Live Account for the Xbox servers. You can also play with Console players in PVE modes like Horde and Escape, however they can opt out of crossplay on Ranked modes. But, social modes are forced crossplay.

Do I need Windows 10 to play Gears 5?

Gears 5 can be played on Windows 7 SP1 64 bit through Steam. It is unknown if Windows 8 and 8.1 users can play right now.

Do I need Xbox Gold to play online?

NO. Gears 5 on PC does not require Xbox Live Gold to play online. You can play completely for free.

Does the game have Input Matchmaking?

The game does not feature input matchmaking. If you play on controller, you will still be put in PC lobbies with mouse and keyboard. However, Gears still plays very well on a controller so you're not as much in a disadvantage as you may think. Console players can also use Mouse and Keyboard on their Xbox, but can still opt out of crossplay and only play with Xbox users.

Does the game support Ultra Wide and Uncapped Frame Rates?

The game will super both Ultra Wide and Super Ultra Wide monitors. Frame Rates can be uncapped

Will my online level carry from Xbox to Steam?

Your level is tied to your Xbox Live account, so it will carry over if your use the same account on Steam.

If I buy my game on the Xbox, do I get a Steam copy?

Xbox Play anywhere is only available through the Microsoft Eco-system. If you buy the game on Xbox through the Marketplace, you can only download the PC version through the Microsoft Store

Will the game feature Anti-cheat?

Gears 5 will be using EAC for its anti-cheat, alongside Halo:MCC.

Can I unlock Steam achievements?

You will unlock Steam and Xbox achievements

What are characters?

- Characters can be purchased directly or earn through gameplay.

- Characters can then have equippable Character Skins that differ from their usual look. Example, Gilded Marcus is a Character Skin for Marcus

- Customization system in menus is organized by Character. Skins are used in all multiplayer modes when equipped.

- COG Characters come with abilities that will be used in Arcade, Escape, and Horde. Swarm characters only have abilities in Arcade

- Characters will be earnable forever once they are introduced, so even if you miss an operation, you can go back and earn the character

- Skins will be available Tour of Duty, Supply drop, and Purchasable with Iron

What will the Microtransactions be like?

Similar to Fortnite. You buy Iron to buy items in a store, and Tour of Duty is similar to a battle pass.

What is Tour of Duty?

Tour of Duty is a battle-pass like system where you complete challenges to rank up to gain new items. You cannot buy your way through Tour of Duty. You can always go back to older operations to unlock items you missed out on, similar to how Halo Reach on MCC will work

Haha even if I did add the count down, people will still be making threads about it. Even when this thread is on the 1st page, people ask questions that were answered in here. Not much you can do about it
