Can I play the campaign as a male character?

Don't want to play as a female.

Yeah, you can always swap between the main character of the act, and Del whenever necessary.

Again, yes. The main character of each act, and Del, are the two swappable characters.

Geez. I greatly prefer playing women in games, nearly always will if given the choice.

But if I don't have that choice? I can *gasp* deal with it.

Ohhh, I see. So you don't play any games where the protagonist can do more than a real human then, right? If the "reality of life" is so important in a video game.
