Gears 5

Gears 5

The open world aspect is a joke and ruined it for me, they butchered the series.
From one of gaming’s most acclaimed sagas, Gears is bigger than ever, with five thrilling modes and the deepest campaign yet.

Complete BS, complete waste of money if you want gears 5 for the campaign, the open world ruined the campaign, the game is incredibly short and the "open world" has practically nothing in it and a waste of time, time spent making that redundant "open world" would have been better spent on developing the story instead of rehashing gears of war 2 and Escape mode is boring as hell as of the moment so I can only hope they make it more interesting with future operations.

Gears of War - five acts with 31 chapters
Gears of War 2 - five acts with 29 chapters and an additional chapter from a dlc
Gears of War 3 - five acts with 30 chapters and a brief prologue mission and the dlc missions you play during the outbreak of E-Day
Gears of War:Judgment - seven acts with 48 chapters and the dlc chapter based in GoW3
Gears of War 4 - five acts with 22 chapters

Gears of War 5 - four acts with 15 chapters

Act 1 has four chapters, however, in chapter two it is literally just a cut scene and a 30 second introduction on upgrading jacks abilities so in truth there is only 3 chapters to act 1

Act 2 there are five chapters, however, chapter 2/3/4 is open world and amounts to only 2 chapters at best, chapter 5 is a proper chapter.

Act 3 there are four chapters but again is mostly open world and again is two, maybe two and a half chapters at best

Act 4 is two chapters and they are proper chapters

So over all there are only 9 true chapters to this game.

The only reason it took me a while to complete the game was because I spent most of the time looking for collectibles and relic weapons

I think the open world aspect for Gears 5 was fine, It lacked however more story. All in all Gears 5 felt like Gears 1 ending only lol just not as good as gears 1 obviously

All that big empty space. All that time and resources coulda gone towards more chapters in the pathetically short Act 4

same really act 1 and 4 were great 1 reminded me of going through the city in GOW and 4 gave me some last stand in GOW 2 vibes but the open world of the 2nd and 3rd acts just killed my enjoyment so much. the only good to come out of act 2 was revisting that lab from 2 and the last part down in the lab. all these devs did is reinforce what Metro Exodus proved you cant take a linear story driven game and just add a semi open world into it the story, characters, etc suffer for it. the only deep part of the campaign is how much time your gonna be wasting looking for collectibles and components

I loved the open world aspect. Great game.

In act 1, Chapter two is literally just a cut scene and a 30 second introduction of jack's flash ability, there is only 9 true chapters in Gears 5, meaning there is only 3 acts in total and that is trying to stretch it.

This man here gets it, Felt like this game got butchered in terms of ACTs compared to Gears 1-3

yea pretty much. i really hope they drop this for GOW 6 and just do classic linear gameplay with the left right style choices we got in the trilogy though i didnt mind that chapter two in act one it wouldnt be as bad as it is if was just that and the rest of the game was the classic linear gameplay

Not every game or series needs to be reworked with open-world design. I'm all for it if done right.

Can you elaborate on why the open-world aspect is lackluster?

Appreciate the information. That..just sucks. I loved Gears 1 and 2. Especially Gears of War 2. That game was a huge improvement over Gears of War 1. After that, I felt like the series took a decline.

Before anyone says Gears of War series is about the horde mode and PvP multiplayer, the campaign in past Gears of War games were pretty special. At least the ones I mentioned. I played a lot of Horde mode and multiplayer versus, but damn, I always enjoyed the campaign. Sad to read this.

I know people don't like Cliff B., but he knew what he was doing when it came to the series. Gears of War 2's campaign was superb.

Gotcha. I know what you mean.

That is one of my greatest pet peeves in open-world video games, by the way.

Or a proper open-world, and local multiplayer compatible Horde mode...

Agree, this game sucks. Maybe it's time to go Epic and play Border Land 3
Maximum Sloth Sep 9, 2019 @ 5:51pm
True, the campaign is thoroughly mediocre.

The story is boring, and not at all engaging. The open-world segments are empty and feel exceedingly tedious.

Also, if you have two other friends, I hope one enjoys playing a borderline useless robot that cannot hide behind cover, and mostly functions as something that carries ammo to other players, and grants a buff every...20-40 seconds...

If the robot player tries to attack anything more than one grunt locust - say hello to death.

You know that annoying robot companion in other games? Yeah, it's the same thing, except it's you. And you're just as useless.

If I sound bitter - I am. I have been playing the robot the entire campaign so far and it sucks. It really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks. It's actually some of the least amount of fun I have had playing a coop game.

That's treason -- both in terms of supporting a Chinese CCP infiltrated platform (see: Tencent) and, of import, moving from a TPS to an *shudders* FPS... ⚠
