Windows Defender has blocked Song of Horror......why?
Why is this singleplayer game trying to communicate over the network at the main menu?

Do you have Steam Cloud enabled? That might be why. It syncs with Steam so you can have your save files throughout different PCs on the same account. That would be my guess anyway.

The steam cloud sync always happens after you close a game. Not when you first launch a game, right?

It blocked single player games on first launch when it connects, I think it is on Steam's end
