Temple of the Lost God entrance puzzle (minor spoilers)

This puzzle or the clue needs reworked. All but 1 formation shows only 4 points which makes it seem as though only 4 characters should be on the switches until the last formation which uses all 5. The text for the clues also only mentions 4 gods until the final clue. The markings on the wall all show 4 points until the last. So why do I need all 5 characters for each rune, after the first, to progress? Just make the runes stay lit w/ the 3 or 4 character combinations unless the wrong switch is stepped on, or add the 5th character positioning in there somehow.
