After level 5, ensure you keep light going. Shoot the windows, park Daylight somewhere right after she casts her first Dark Veil where it can also injure herself and/or her minions.
A blessed, hasted, darkvision Rogue with double magical weapons is vicious here...
Looted a container while all in stealth and before she noticed me i attacked her and got surprise on her. Oh, she got 2 legendaries off to recover some health, but 2 rounds of paladin smiting and my ranger with hunters mark and collossus slayer and she was dead before her minions got an attack.
Don't know if this is a good thing or not, though. The fight is so easy if you have the right build. If you don't have the right party this fight is a huge struggle.
As i said in the previous post. If you fail the persuasion check. It starts combat with your back line in the front row. I failed the persuasion check at least 10 times and every single time, Aska beelined straight for my mage who was in the frontline and killed her either in the first or second round.
The fight is near impossible if you fail the persuasion check. And def impossible if you don't have a pally and failed the persuasion check.
First, have a source of light. I cast the cantrip on my Cleric's shield.
Second, use Cautious mode on the 3 non-tank characters you have, and sit them on the balcony.
Third, send your tank character out to steal something. This turns them hostile.
At this point, you can just use Space Bar to pause the game before they find your tank (who should be in Cautious Mode as well). This lets you get the Surprise round. You want to move your tank out further into the room, with some source of light, so he's the only target the enemy can see. Then you just blast them into bits with Advantage attacks from range.
Obviously this works better with Stealth focus characters or Pass Without Trace. I was able to stay stealthed for the entire fight on my 3 DPS characters, while my Cleric stood there taking beating with Spirit Guardians up.
The way this game handles Stealth is just stupid.
It, isn't though? I have beat it 3 times now after full release and with 3 different group makeups. The easiest by far was with a paladin, but i never have surprised her and have always intentionally taken the option to start the fight right away.
Sorry you were challenged too much in this fight, but it is very much designed to be beat in many ways.
To break the windows, you need a range attack or a cantrip. I had no luck using melee on the windows, a possible oversight.
Vampires will take damage each round in sunlight and have disadvantage on all die rolls while in sunlight. You could also have a cleric cast Daylight or Sunlight, or use the corresponding scroll. Paladin smite and radiant damage effects are very useful against all undead. Rangers with Undead hunter can also make the encounter go a lot faster.
Also don't count out a rogue's sneak attack, either stabbing her in the back or at range.
She can use a legendary action to eat her fellow vampires to heal, may want to kill all add vampires first so she doesn't drag out the fight, unless you can do enough damage to 1 round her.
For some reason you cannot cast healing spells on enemies, a severe oversight by the devs as undead and radiant/positive energy weak creatures should take damage from healing spells. Using cure serious or heal was great fun to end a vampires day if he didn't save.
Good luck with your next vampire encounter!
