And yes the main campaign writing is not very good but most people buy and play the game for the tactical combat and not the story or ugly faces
+1. As far as I am aware, there are ZERO mods for this game with the exception of UB. There is only 1 mod.
I'm still getting into it, but I've played a handful of them. A lot of them are fairly straight dungeon crawls - nothing wrong with it but I don't think that's what you mean by "decent writing." As far as having a plot/story, the best ones I think I've played have been Forsaken Isle, Depths of Darkness, and right now I'm in the middle of Shadows over Brightreach.
But the guy who makes this really did a good job with it. Highly recommend you try it out.
It's based on the 1985 tabletop adventure module, not the 2003 game. And the "writing" (if you can call it that, lol) is pretty obviously from 1985... not to mention there's relatively little dialogue once you get to the temple itself.
I'd argue that for op, Solasta isn't really the best game to play if you care about writing. Every campaign, TA-made or user-made, tends to be filled with predictable stories and fantasy tropes. Though I did find Devlish Deals to be particularly creative overall, if not yet completely polished.
That's not to say Solasta is bad, but the main draw is the combat. The first video on the Steam page literally says "Where Solasta really shines is its combat". They know this and embrace it, so you should too.
In terms of gameplay, strap in and get ready to optimize, the difficulty is wild lol. Way more intense than the main campaign or the other big modules.
The only one Ive played with good and compelling writing. Genuinely couldnt predict the ending which was a first. And its only 4 maps long.
