A Little make over ?
HI i have just recently purchased this and the 2 DLCs im enjoying the game, how ever as i believe many people have commented on , the character detail in game is pretty bland, just wondering if there is a graphics mod to enhance or add more detail thanks. PS i have searched the Workshop and Nexus but cant find any thing.

You can not find anything, because nothing exists. The devs did not build the Dungeon Maker in such a way, as to accommodate modding faces, hairs, clothes, armors, weapons...appearance. We get, what they give us.

They're still gonna do more DLC, though, so there's a chance we'll get improved cosmetics with one.

I have written quite a few mods that affect character appearance. Only working with assets available in game as well as some custom colors. They are all included in the Solasta Community Expansion 2 mod at https://www.nexusmods.com/solastacrownofthemagister/mods/212

In the Character/General tab:
Unlock all NPC Faces: Allows the selection of numerous faces that are in the game but unavailable to players. Only use this if you don't mind running into the occasional NPC that bears a striking resemblance to one of your characters.

Allow Sorcerer without origin markings: Draconic Sorcerers without scales, for example.

Unlock Sorcerer origin markings for all characters: Any character can have the Sorcerer markings/scales/tattoos

Unlock glowing colors for all markings and tattoos: The glowing colors from the mana painter markings can be used on any body decoration (like those scales or any tattoo)

Add glowing eye colors: Adds a custom range of glowing eye colors

Add custom bright eye colors: Adds a custom range of brighter but not quite glowing eye colors

Unlock eye styles: Unlocks 3 eye styles for all characters (from Sorcerer origins)

In the Game UI tab under Inventory and Items:
Hide the Crown of the Magister: Makes the crown invisible when worn

Empress Garb appearance: Change the appearance of the Empress Garb Armor to any of these options: Normal, Barbarian Clothes, Druid Leather Armor, Elven Chain Mail, Commoner's Clothing, Sorcerer Outfit, Studded Leather, Sylvan Armor, Adventuring Wizard's Clothing. Because Rogues don't wear canary yellow.

I also have several custom skin and hair colors that are installed with the mod (made to support Dark Elves).

Right, but you (or any modder), can only use in game assets as they already exist, in game...correct? I mean, you can not mod the faces ala Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim, right? Or make custom armors that do not already exist in the game, with textures that you design outside of the game, right? Or am I wrong there. Can you in fact, create brand new faces that would provide "eye candy" like looks?

Thanks for spending your time doing this, it is much appreciated!

The CE 2 mod is awesome.

Why would this be impossible? The Skyrim modders, mod pretty much the whole game, including the executables and most mods need those modified executable files and script interpreters to function.

It's possible, but one has to use their own software and basically be a graphics designer themselves to mod faces and other things. Unity is very moddable, it's just most modders with unity don't make new graphics assets as it takes a lot of skill.

Bethesda provided a toolkit which facilitated the modding of faces, hairs, etc. That toolkit, also provided for a direct link to the game world. I was very vocal about urging T.A. to provide those same tools for modders here, but that didn't happen.

Now I am admittedly NOT a programmer. Not since the days of Fortran and COBOL so no,, I am not familiar with the quirks of Unity. Perhaps it indeed was not possible for T.A. TO provide those tools. I do not know. But I have to believe that if they themselves developed faces to lay into a scene, then they could have made those same assets directly available for modding by the community of modders who DO have the skill sets.

Technically, I think it is possible. We have added icons for items and images for things like the race selection panel, so we can get the game to import a graphic asset so it should be possible with a 3D asset as well. But you also need to pair that up with animations and match it up to other model pieces. For example, if I add a human face to a dwarf, I get some invisible body parts and the character is stuck in an awkward T pose. So, it's all very interconnected and I, for one, do not have the skillset or time to learn it. I had never done any modding or programming or even looked at any C# code before diving into modding Solasta. I think we just need a modder with the right skills to come along.

I've coded, but like I said above, COBOL and FORTRAN....35-40 years ago so, ZERO applicability to Unity engine or C C+, C++, etc etc
Aldain Jul 22, 2022 @ 3:52pm
Man I wish I could figure out C#, I always had an idea for a subclass I'd love to see in Solasta but I know I don't have the chops to do it myself (think a Fighter Spellblade but pulling from the Cleric spell list instead with a few unique benefits based on which deity you pick).
