Try to pie the fight out so that you're engaging as few gorillas as possible. Obviously also start the fight yourself from stealth to get as many free shots as possible.
If it makes you feel better, this is (for some inexplicable reason) the hardest fight in the DLC.
As an aside, unless there's another ghoul fight I can't remember, you shouldn't have needed to spend any spells fighting the ghouls. There's elevated platforms you can stand on to funnel the ghouls so your frontliners only ever have to engage 2v2.
- tried moving back towards the entrance but the boulder throwers are the ones that shred everyone
- no strategy seems to be working. Frankly getting fed up...
Can't you go back through the little mini dungeon before the gorillas and short rest there. I didn't personally but I am pretty sure you can.
The way the fight works, unless you're thinking of a completely different fight than me (the gorillas after the redeemer nest, correct?) is that there's a bit of map geometry that seperates the gorilla's spawning zone in to two. If you go stealthed and attack the closest gorilla, the one that pathfinds near the bottom of the step, they will slowly all get in to combat with you over ~3-4 turns as long as you're also moving back while firing. You should be able to kill a gorilla a turn, so this means you're only ever being attacked by 2 or 3 at a time.
This is how it played out for me. I can't remember if I fought them at night and with disadvantage though.
Also, don't go back in the caves after exiting them as a second level party. You can short rest in the last room before you leave the caves, but if you go back in immediately after exiting, you won't like what you find.
