Valley DLC : How to beat the Gorillas?
I just got out of the first cave with the ghouls. There's no campfire to recup -> and my team is getting shredded with the Gorillas - its also night time so almost all my ranged (1 SOC 1 RANG) are missing so are my fighters - even with 1 dancing light -> all my good spells are spent on my SOC with the Ghouls !

How do I beat them?

Try to pie the fight out so that you're engaging as few gorillas as possible. Obviously also start the fight yourself from stealth to get as many free shots as possible.

If it makes you feel better, this is (for some inexplicable reason) the hardest fight in the DLC.

As an aside, unless there's another ghoul fight I can't remember, you shouldn't have needed to spend any spells fighting the ghouls. There's elevated platforms you can stand on to funnel the ghouls so your frontliners only ever have to engage 2v2.

- i tried stealth - surprise helped a bit but the darkness takes away all the advantage
- tried moving back towards the entrance but the boulder throwers are the ones that shred everyone
- no strategy seems to be working. Frankly getting fed up...

If the dark is a problem I think you could spam short rests until the sun comes back at the very least.

tried the short rest attempt : it keeps saying "Its not safe to rest here" no matter how far I go from the apes

ok im gonna try with the game custom difficulty settings to nerf enemies to 0... (I hate cheating but this stvpid design I dont see any other way)

was able to beat them with their hits/attacks/def reduced to nothing. still feels like cheating but its better than being stuck... reverted diff back to normal..

Can't you go back through the little mini dungeon before the gorillas and short rest there. I didn't personally but I am pretty sure you can.

The way the fight works, unless you're thinking of a completely different fight than me (the gorillas after the redeemer nest, correct?) is that there's a bit of map geometry that seperates the gorilla's spawning zone in to two. If you go stealthed and attack the closest gorilla, the one that pathfinds near the bottom of the step, they will slowly all get in to combat with you over ~3-4 turns as long as you're also moving back while firing. You should be able to kill a gorilla a turn, so this means you're only ever being attacked by 2 or 3 at a time.

This is how it played out for me. I can't remember if I fought them at night and with disadvantage though.

Sounds like you have human or non-darkvision PCs. That's a harder mode than taking an all darkvision party (i.e. elves, half-elves, dwarves, and half-orcs). With a darkvision party, the darkness works in your favor. The gorillas get disadvantage on all their attacks. Your PCs don't. If you have too many nondarkvision PCs, only choice is to cast light on one of them and have them run forward to light up the gorillas, or use dancing lights. But that doesn't work perfectly. 3 of the gorillas prefer ranged attacks. If you move near or adjacent to them, they will attack and then move away.

Also, don't go back in the caves after exiting them as a second level party. You can short rest in the last room before you leave the caves, but if you go back in immediately after exiting, you won't like what you find.

Nope - I tried that - its SWARMINg with Redeemers (over 30 right on the entrance if you jump back in - its suicide)
