To check if a combination of weapon works, look for the main and off hand attacks on the left side of the screen. If you only see the main attack, then the off hand weapon will not be used.
This lets you use two weapons even when the weapons are not light. So rapier + dagger is fine; and a common choice (two rapiers is kitschy, but ydy)
(There are some minor other benefits as well.)
This is unfortunately a 5e thing, not a Solasta thing. For some reason, 5e imposes a hard cap of 1 bonus action per turn. 5e also implements off-hand attacks as bonus actions. Thus, a video game based on 5e can't auto-complete two-weapon attacks because this would eat up the character's bonus action, stopping them from using it in some other way. This is very noticeable for e.g. Rogues, whose class features give them lots of other stuff to do with their bonus action.
I thought versatile meant you can use the weapon 1h with a shield, or 2h if you have no shield?
And in the latter case get 2h bonuses if you have that style?
