Its working fine.
Still, a Paladin instead of a Ranger isn't a bad trade.
I have made very cookie cutter builds.. First was Pala, Ranger, Rogue, Wizard. My second was Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, Wizard.
Both times it chose the rogue for that segment.
(prof at level one is +2 to your roll, Dex of +1 will give you a +3, but it would be higher if your dex mod is higher, so if your dex mod is +3 (from a 16 dex), then being prof in the skill will give you a +5)
I go into stealth mode and CAN'T pick pocket anyone. There is no prompt. All it does is start a discussion.
Also, I had my ranger in the rogue turorial for some reason, instead of my rogue.
Also I may be wrong but I think it picks the character based on either Stealth value or proficiency with thieves' tools
