Playing unfinished business mod without the palace of ice dlc
Hi there,

i have been gone for a while and wanted to continue playing a campaign with the unfinished business mod (which is great btw, can only recommend it) but i dont have the palace of ice dlc. When i start the game, i cant get to the main menu it says the loading failed due to a mod and my only option is to quit the game.

Because of this its also impossible to update the unfinished business mod and im stuck at version 1.433.79

Do i need to buy the new dlc or is there a way around it?
Thanks in advance

Last time TA broke the game, it took damn near a month for them to fix it, and not once during that month did they even bother to acknowledge that they broke the game. Dont expect to hear from TA, until the resolution is put out as a hot fix.

Are you Grumpy old Dude on youtube? I watched your video about starting a campaign with 6 players, it was very helpful.

I dont think TA is at fault here, if i read the reddit post correctly you can play unfinished business without the new dlc, but only if you have a certain version. The problem is that i cant update the mod.

Maybe some of the modders know what to do.

I am the same yeah. Glad you found it helpful!

If UB calls for a specific edition, and it is different from the one the saves were created with..it is because of changes made by TA. Each and every time T.A. has released DLC, and I do believe it has happened EVERY time, they broke the game. Sometimes it took a week to fix, sometimes 2, once (Jan 2023 IIRC???) it took over a month. The GAME Solasta: Crown of the Magister...is top shelf. I love it. The dev? Not at all. They have fallen SO FAR down my list, I will never buy another T.A. product. I dont care what they do, or what they sell it for. They've shown me their true colors.

in fact, that play through on YT you are referencing, I had to abandon when a TA DLC broke saves. Multiple times I have had to abandon games, when TA broke saves when I had 30-35 hours in. It gets REALLY discouraging, when you are not allowed by the dev, to finish a game.

plus he has his game to never update and that doesn't seem to do ♥♥♥♥ to preserve his play, it's happened for lost valley for sure also, and yeah TA was unheard of for 5 weeks at least

So your position Grumpy Old Dude is that you chose to use a mod at your own risk. When TA updated their product it of course effected the use of that mod thus "breaking" your game. TA is not responsible for that you are!! If you truly want a game stuck in stasis you better learn how to make a save on a drive be it virtual or some form of removable media that you can control what is changed in the data.

He's always been adamant that he has the game set up to not update and it always updates on him, he's always said this, I know shutting off updates on other games has kept me at the same version, so why does Solasta update when he tells it not to? Not trying to defend him or anything but If I tell a game to not update because I want to keep playing the version I'm on because I do video and streaming the game should not update on me

you have raised this point over and over and over; and it has been explained to you repeatedly...I dont update the game. I have the Jan 2023 ver installed. (well...HAD. It is uninstalled now on both STEAM and GOG.)

Both were set to NOT update..
I did not ujpdate the UB mod...
the game updates anyway, and I roll it back...
USUALLY, that helps, not this time.

And the LV DLC broke character creation with or without the UB mod installed so take your attitude and shove it where the sun dont shine.

I honestly don't know why you still are on this forum with how much negativity you spew about TA.
If you rolled back to a working version then isolated it there would be no issue. Since you state that it updated you obviously didn't do that.

One of the big complaints you have is that TA a software business that is making a computer game updates that game for a price. Since you say you have not bought any DLCs this is a good indicator that TA has continued to release content and update their product for free. You just contradict your self at every turn which is why your arguments have never had any weight.

As for the free content that came with the LV DLC I never had it effect any save. Since you have this indicates it is from your choice to use the Unfinished Business mod, with that choice comes the responsibility of you to accept that there will be times when things do nor work properly. To expect TA to push out a fix for an issue you chose to make on your timetable is just silly.

peruse this forum, and note the myriad of broken elements. You gonna try and pin ALL of that, on the mod, which many are NOT using?

Do us both a favor OK? piss off and ignore my posts from now on

So instead of useless bickering... Try updating the mod outside of the game, manually by downloading the latest github release and installing through UMM.

I had no problem updating after POI came out but I was also on the latest release beforehand.
A co-op friend of mine freshly installed the mod after POI released- not having the DLC himself, but still being able to run the mod fine.

I've done all that. STEAM and GOG both for some unknown reason, did away with the "dont update at all" option. So now it's rollback, rollback, rollback. Usually works...this time it didnt. Of course, it didnt work after the LV release either so... Just one more reason to lament the end of physical media.

As for updating the mod....I didnt update the mod. It was the previous edition, which SHOULD have worked with a rolled back version of CotM but...it didnt. Updating the mod, is gonna call for the updated version of Crown. Which defeats entirely, trying to avoid the updates in the 1st place. And when the updates break your existing saves...

yeah, I am. You get that way when a dev keeps breaking the game you paid for. And dont blame it on the mod. Skyrim is modded beyond belief...still works. Same with Morrowind, hell I have Daggerfall modded to Unity and some 65 mods to THAT in place...still works. UBoat is modded out the wahzoo, still works. Solasta? T.A. breaks it every 6 gddmn months. Yeah, that SHOULD make ya grumpy.

Are you really going to claim that those games you mentioned where never broken by an update while you where using mods? If you are claiming that was the case you are either extremely lucky or you played them long after updates actually stopped occurring.

As for someone doing a favor do the whole forum a favor and piss off! Go play the wonderful games you always claim have had no issues during their development or even after with mod conflicts.

I had issues reinstalling the mod and getting it to work. If a full re-install of Unity Mod Manager and the latest UB release don't work, try to get an old version of Unity Mod Manager from Nexus Mods. Version 0.25.0 worked for me. Updating the mod manager itself seems to cause issues with installation of the mod.
