Is the party limit 4 or can it go to 6?
Am satisfied if its 4 (will be abit like origins) but unsure if this is a hard limit or not.

Four unless you use the Unfinished Business mod (can choose 4, 5, or 6 party members).

4 is the hard limit. 4 Characters are split between whoever is playing and can be distributed by the host. If you want more or less you will have to look into mods. Companions are temporary party members that basically can be controlled as a regular member of the party but they aren't as permanent.

I do not understand how this question can possibly come up, every time a new DLC is released.

The game itself does not allow you to start with 1,2 or 3 characters.
It mandates 4.
It gives no option for a 5th or 6th character.

So how is this even a question?

Yes, a mod (Unfinished Business) WILL allow as little as 1 player, or up to 6. But then, that is NOT the game itself.

So I've just started playing this game and, unlike you, I have thousands of hours of CRPG experience where the default number of party members is 6 not 4, 4 is the exception to the rule, this is why I am clarifying if I am going to get 6, or if the party is maxed at 4. This means my party composition will be reflected by the limit of 4 versus 6.

Ignore him, he's the resident forum troll that only gets enjoyment by spreading negativity and arguing with other posters. However, there really isn't a "default" party size in CRPGs or pen & paper (although 4-6 is typical).

The only limit I know of in any game is play ability. I would love to play a team of 12 but the burden managing it and the rate of progression would kill us all.

I often play 3 player with cataclysm or higher skill level, with special circumstances. I can not get the game to a high enough difficulty level to play 6 players, maybe if every one has low stats with a difficulty of -5 or above cat might be balanced for me.

People have different play styles, mine is usually, uncle. Your party has wiped again.

You could have just done a search for party of 4 or something close to that also, I know Grumpy can be Grumpy but your question has been asked 10 times at least

I started gaming, on an Atari 2600...so your assumptions, are WAY off base.

Does the game let you start w th 1? No
Will it start with 2? no
Will it start with 3? no
will it let you adda 5th? no

How many character slots are there? 4.

Gee...I wonder how many characters the game itself, allows you to have
Captain_Narol Jun 3, 2023 @ 1:36am
OP is right that party size used to be 6 in CRPGs, but 4 tends to become the norm in recent games and I regret that, as a party of 6 allows for more variety in groups and interesting synergies...

Wow so you were gaming when gaming was so garbage it almost killed the genre? Not much better. Sorry your 20s were wasted not getting any women because your generation was so backward thinking that they thought video games caused jesus to cry and that you and your buddys got together and made weird science as an outlet for it.

Never thought I'd meet a discount store Todd Rogers but here we are.

Can you even use the THAC0 system?

Listen my guy. This game is so poorly advertised I had to spend time finding out if it was a single player game before buying it because it has multiplayer spread out all over the store page and in most articles. You think I'm going to go through the effort of finding this information when I could just flick a message onto the forum and get a response from a person so theres no confusion?
Grumpy Old Dude Jun 3, 2023 @ 6:03am
You know how to use the SEARCH function?

Yes, games use to come in 6 PC flavor. And PCs use to be powered by X86 CPUs, and a RAM heavy desktop use to have 8 megs of RAM, NONE of which changes the fact that this game is patently obviously a 4 player-character game. At the risk of repeating myself:

Does the game let you start with 1? No
Will it start with 2? no
Will it start with 3? no
will it let you add 5th? no

You're spending more time coming back to your own created thread and arguing with people
than it would have taken to do a search, get your answer and be on your way, maybe 2 minutes flat lol

OH, and as for THAC0? It makes perfect sense, provided you can do 6th grade math. The targets AC, is ADDED to the attackers TO HIT die roll. Period, plain and simple. Which is why a lower AC is better. No armor? AC = 10. Attacker rolls a 7? +10 is 17. AC is -5? Attacker rolls a 7? +(-5) makes the roll a 2. EZ-PZ.

Dude just for once in your life shut your mouth hole. The OP asked a simple question, it was answered. Then you have to come in with your piss poor elitist attitude and add literally nothing to the conversation. Is your life really this sad?

You use UB multiclass combos that are a bit more min/maxed on top of the fact that most of what UB adds is objectively overpowered to begin with.

If a person wants to use a party of 6: first, you'll be leveling more slowly unless you turn up experience, so that helps balance things a little. Second, there are user made campaigns designed for 6. Even some that are designed for 4 have challenging enough combat for a party of 6 for many players. Finally, you probably don't want to create characters that are min/maxed. I find that "rp-friendly yet effective" characters work the best.

And guys, just block that grumpy guy. You can't argue with people like that so it's best to ignore them.
