But you'll love the combat, it adds more dimension such as flying (in and out of combat).
And you need to really think on some of the encounters.
If you like D&D and turn based RPG - yes, you should. Game is great. Tons of possible party setups, AWESOME combat system and implementation of D&D ruleset. Yes, story is your typical fantasy fare but it's written really good (some dialogues are really funny). IMHO it's an easy recommendation - especially now with all the patches/DLCs.
Arh but too late........ I see you already bought it. Hopefully your under the 2 hour trial period.
This post on the Divinity forum sums it up perfectly how some people feel
In Solasta, the fact you can go down to boot level and also have over the shoulder engagements and, yep, a story and dialogue is way above anything previously.
The interface alone is bloody good place to start. It’s simplistic, smooth and does everything you want it to do without ever touching a keyboard or mouse!
Combat is engaging, thoughtful and rewarding. I’ve played a ton of RPGs for near 30 years and if you put them down for any length of time, you haven’t a clue what is what, who is doing what and barely any memory of what a dull isometric world is you were playing in. This is a breathe of fresh air to the genre. Bloody clever level design and a cracking graphic engine used.
The path AI is way above any game I’ve played, instead of manually babysitting each character to navigate around the complex levels, they certainly have AI to get themselves up and over crevices, pillars and bridges with nobody getting stuck.
Lastly, you’ve been in a dungeon for hours and gone deep and achieved what you were meant to do. Then it’s time to leave. Last thing you want is the drudgery of looking for exits etc. well the game has taken care of that with fast forward exits and points on the map. That is a biggy.
My bias here is that I've been playing D&D in one form or another for a really long time. So for me even a mediocre D&D game is enjoyable for me.
Based on your preferences and the current price of the game I would say you will likely enjoy it.
The story is quite average and quite simple in presentation (compared to other modern rpg). It is not bad, but very linear, little choice and consequences and the usual an ancient evil is on the rise again. But it is ok.
If you need a complex story and well writen companions then you should go to pillars of eternity, tyranny ( not well known and did not get the love it deserves) or pathfinder kingmaker + wrath of the rightourous.
If you have fun with well balanced and disgned turn based battles, then you can't go wrong with solasta.
Believe it or not, it's possible to enjoy both.
