AOE damage didn’t do anything to him
I think that is really what true sight was developed for, there is also a few items that give it if you have a party that can't cast it.
I have also seen damage cause it to fail as it is a concentration based spell. Another odd thing is if someone in the party paths into the enemy using invisible it will show the enemy on screen, Although you usually can't directly attack them you at least know they are there.
I had a fight recently against a Greater Invis mage at level 6ish and ended it by first using See Invisibility, then attacking until they lost Concentration. I also Counterspelled everything they tried to do during that time, so they were completely neutered.
You can also "drag" them through area spells by casting something like Spike Growth or Wall of Fire (ideally the Outer version) in a doorway and running back with your group. They will fire Lightning Bolts and Cone of Colds (if in range) through walls, but if you can have Lightning resistance/immunity up on one party member who is not stealthed and everyone else is, the damage will be minimal. When the enemy mage runs out of these spells, they'll then have to run into your damage spells.
For future reference, especially in user-made campaigns, you'll want some means of dealing with (Greater) Invisible enemies earlier than you may have access to True Seeing. Personally, I like to have Lightning Bolt on multiple party members for this and also to shoot through walls. Comes in handy surprisingly often.
