There are a lot of resistant to non-magic attack creatures out there, so half damage or full damage makes a difference.
in cotm for example the best late game dps 1 handed str weapon is longsword, warhammer, battle axe
so if i if i got like
primed, scimitar, morning star, primed mace i will make it to +1 if i cant find any +1weapon
or if i just need 2 one handed str weapon one of the primed battle axe/primed longsword/primed warhammer to make +1
This. The mats for the +1 weapons are not very important to be all that careful with, but a second primed weapon/armor of the type you want can be very hard to come by.
But Grumpy is also correct, none of it is NECESSARY
That is my strategy to. If you go to the second map you clear there will be a merchant there that has all the recipes you can use prime items in. That will help you plan how you want to use the materials. There are some items though like primed daggers that are a fairly common drop so for those I will go ahead and craft the +1 daggers while holding one for when I get possible ingredients later on.
This has gotten a lot better in Lost Valley as you can buy both the primed item along with the required ingredient to craft items for a good part of the campaign.
