How does co-op work?
What's the co-op like for this game? I'm close to finishing Divinity: Original Sin 2 with my partner and we're looking for something to play together next that has similar vibes. I played the campaign on this game when it first came out and it was super fun, but I never finished. Would this be a good co-op experience? Can anyone give me insight on how the process is for multiplayer?

If you enjoyed DOS2 coop you will like this as well. I play with one friend and we each control 2 characters. You can each create custom characters as well. Like Carog said, in the lobby the host will just assign characters and you can start playing. You get desynced occasionally but the host can just save, quit, and open a new lobby and you can continue.

I host a 4 player MP game once a week since shortly after the new DLC released, the set up is easy. There were quite a few disconnects at first but that has really improved most weeks it doesn't happen, the game auto saves at the start of each fight so restarts are easy. I juts make sure to save regularly.

In terms of play, you just assign characters to players each time you play

Can players create their own characters, or at least import them?

When you start you can use a character the host has, create your own, or use one of your saved characters.
