Less Plot More Gameplay?
Is it fair to say that Solasta focuses on gameplay instead of plot and characters?

I ask because the general consensus seems to be that the plot is weak and the characters are dull however the gameplay is fun.

Pretty much.

If you've ever played tabletop imagine having a DM who carefully designs combat scenarios, gives some effort into environment and arena design and kind of just wings the story with an overarching Macguffin plot which serves as more a vehicle to proceed than anything else.

The plot's fine if you picture it as 5 people around a table playing DnD casually imo.

It's worth mentioning there are quite a few good player-made modules out now that are just hours and hours of more fun gameplay

Tbh player made stuff would most likely be a massive hit or miss (I'm guessing mostly miss) and because of that, it's honestly not something that interests me.

Ta for saying though.

The player made stuff is better than the two stock campaigns.

I don't know if I would go so far as to say the combat scenarios are carefully designed. For example there's one boss fight against a vampire where you're supposed to break the windows to the upper story lair that the vampire is using, for some inexplicable reason, to let the sunlight in, but unless they patched it you're given no indication that this is something you can actually do so you just end up smacking the thing with your beatstick. And most common enemy encounters are just common enemy encounters, actually a lot of people complained that there was too much of a vertical element to the random combat encounters which depending on pathfinding made them take longer (which the new DLC campaign fixed).
