I will agree with that.

Same here! Really enjoying the game...

Agree 100%. And there is a small but thriving community of modders putting out some top rate content as well.

In terms of its combat and encounter design, it's the best D&D-based CRPG I've ever played.

Certainly the best implementation of the 5e rules in a crpg.

What competition does it have?

Just Baldur's gate 3 and in my opinion Solasta does it better, even with the limited licence they have.

In fairness, BG3 is still in early access while Solasta is a complete game. I think BG3 has the potential to take the top spot, but agree, it's not there yet. Still alot needs to done.

No, this game is not the best DnD style game. I don't think it could have lower production quality if it tried for example, meanwhile things like NwN and BG are on steam.

Might be the best 5e game, though even then it won't be once BG3 releases, but as far as I know this is the only 5e game.

BG 3 is a pile of steaming fecal matter.

To be fair, BG 3 is still in EA because Larian sucks. They employ more people in HR (250+ employees at Larian), than Tactical Adventures employs in total (15-20 employees).

I haven't played BG 3, but from what I've read and my understanding is that it barely follows 5e rules. It mostly just uses 5e for the classes and stuff.

And yes, Baldur's Gate 2 is definitely an overall better game than solasta, Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter nights are a far cry away from the tabletop versions of their games when it comes to rules (I mean turning it to real time with pause drastically changes the mechanics and that was the arpg treatment of that time).

So I wouldn't say solasta is the best DND game, but I've played almost all of the DND games on PC, and solasta follows the tabletop rules the closest of any DND game period. It's the best adaptation of DND rules into a video game.

Rule sets and grognard talk aside, this game is very well done and the most important thing is they have maxed out the use of the Fun-to-Play factor. It is amazing work, especially from a small developer.

I haven't looked at it much aside from right after it went into EA as I don't want to spoil myself, but back then it was 5e with some house rules (like flanking). I'd be surprised if it has changed significantly.

Either way, the production quality is the main draw of it. It butchering 5e, if it does, barely matters because it's only 5e.

The problem is that you don't want a game that follows the tabletop rules to the letter. Ignoring that you have the tabletop for that, it doesn't translate into games well. A nice example is passive vs active perception, which works fine in a tabletop but in a video game leads to awful garbage like slowly sneaking around the map for absolutely no good reason (like in solasta).
