Crafting magic weapons and armor question
I have a 4th level cleric, a paladin, ranger and rogue party. None of them, as far as I can tell, are proficient at crafting weapons or armor. Am I stuck the entire game without being able to craft those items?

Thanks for any reply.

Restart. Give each character 1 of each crafting tool proficiency , through there background etc

Super annoying. Your characters should be able to at least learn that feat when levelling.

So you did not pick any useful tools during character creation? The only ones that matters are Manacalon Rosary, Herbalism, and maybe Poisoner's Kit. Manacalon Rosary lets you make magic items. Since you have no Sorc or Wiz you have to select it. If you looking for smithing forget it, not in the game.

You do not have manacalon rosary proficiency, and you gave nobody arcana profiiency so no you can not craft magic weapons and armor.

If you are playing the main campaign, you can buy a magical item that when attuned gives you manacalon rosary proficiency

You need to buy or loot the rosary people mentioned above in order to craft weapons and armour. I don't believe you have one automatically - maybe that is the issue?

you have to have a rosary, but you also have to have proficiency in it or in Arcana.

One character should have the Academic background to jumpstart the influence process with the Antiquarians. As a bonus, you get the Arcana skill - among others. Then all you need is one set of beads for your party. Your game is gonna kinda suck without the ability to craft the best weapons and armor.

None of them have that background so I'm screwed. Can no NPC craft them for me?
Grumpy Old Dude Sep 7, 2022 @ 7:21pm
not truly screwed. You dont NEED the crafted weapons/armor to proceed thru the game. Little tougher without? Perhaps, but not overly so.

also, when you get a choice between stats or feats...you can take a feat that gives you manacalon rosary proficiency; and then you CAN craft.

Good point. Commit to the game, salvage the situation. Imagine being the idiot that created the party of humans. Yes, that's me. But I salvaged it.

Just this guy's opinion, but you don't need a ranger and a rogue. I suggest using the lowlife background on the ranger, and replace the rogue with a sellsword shock arcanist wizard, or keep the rogue and take a greenmage. Personal preference is the lowlife hunter ranger and sellsword shock arcanist, paired with academic battle cleric and aristocrat oath of the motherland paladin-

3/4 of the party can cast fireball at higher levels. welcome to nuketown.
entire party has darkvision. they can even see John Cena in the dark.
entire party has amazing AC (26- 32 with good gear by endgame) say goodbye to healing.
access to all crafting skills. make all of the things.
no need for rations/ food or torches
easily pass speech/ arcana/ religion/ stealth and other mechanics checks

half elf paladin for tanking/ off casting/ speech checks
hill dwarf cleric for healing/ off tanking/ support casting
sylvan elf ranger for stealth/ food/ lockpicking/ poison crafting/ high single target damage in range and melee
high elf wizard for crafting everything else/ aoe/ blasting/ counterspell/ battlefield control/ detect magic/ comprehend languages/ identify, can even tank in medium armor with the raise shield feat and shield spell. becomes a battlefield god with the wardenblade, and most direct damage elemental evocation spells are automatically upcast 1 level higher than the spell slot used. Take your nukes and utilities at level ups and copy everything you can to your spellbook from scrolls. Just put the rest of the party in dodge mode and solo the game with this absolute UNIT. Just name him Chad, because he will absolutely clown on everything on the field, the rest of the party included.

I like a considered opinion.

OP made mistakes. You are definitely handicapping yourself with no sorcerer/wizard and crafting that will cost a feat. Kinda like bringing all humans. You know, if the Ring of Darkvision didn't require Attunement, it would put humans right back in the game.

I think you need an Academic. It syncs well with a Battle Cleric - Half-Elf Battle Cleric - because all characters should be proficient in Stealth. You get Arcana and Nature which allows you to craft everything besides arrows/bolts. Then you can grab Althetics and Stealth as a Half-Elf. Then Perception and Survival as a Cleric. You want high Insight (WIS), Perception (WIS), and Survival (WIS) on a least one character. And there is no better class than Cleric for that. Plus, you get Athletics and Stealth. Plus, you can craft almost everything.

I prefer Spy over Low Life. Sleight of Hand is not used. And you don't need to be proficient in Thieves' Tools to pick locks. However, whether it's a Spy or Low Life, you want Stealth.

Why Paladin over Fighter?

Why Wardenblade?

I think you should try a Sorcerer with the Heightened and Twinned metamagic abilities - Heightened Blindness and Twinned Haste or Improved Invisibility for the win. Also, a Sorcerer is great for all the CHA skills.

I do like the 3x Fireballs a round though. That's gonna put the hurt on a group of enemies. 2x Fireballs (with Sorcerer and Battle Cleric) only tenderizes them.

Sideways, do all characters need proficiency in perception?
guard65 Sep 9, 2022 @ 9:07am
Nah, detect traps / perception is fine on just one. Usually the wise one (bonuses) and the disarming party member is enough for me.
