Bonus actions
Are bonus actions in this game bugged, or am I missing something? It seems you're only allowed to take a bonus action BEFORE your standard action, but once you've already taken your standard action first, there's no option to take a bonus action AFTER your standard action. The D&D5e player's handbook says you can take a bonus action ANY TIME during your turn.

Example from play:

I had a cleric who cast spiritual weapon (which is a bonus action spell). The following round, I decided to cast a light spell as the area was dimly lit, before using my bonus action to attack with the spiritual weapon. I saw the bonus action option was still available before I cast the light spell, but once the light spell was cast, the bonus action option was no longer available.

Thanks in advance for all constructive feedback.....

I have used bonus actions before regular actions many times. I haven't seen this particular issue, but then I don't usually use Light in combat.

This is actually specific to Spiritual Weapon.

Other bonus actions will not do that. On the first round you summon a Spiritual Weapon you will not be able to attack with it, because Summoning the Spiritual Weapon itself IS the Bonus action.

So you can literally attack... and Summon a Spiritual Weapon. From that point on though the attacks with the Spiritual Weapon are your bonus action. The problem of course being when you cast another spell that IS a bonus action which casting a Light Spell may be if you used it from the Red colored menu.

Spiritual Weapon is buggy, as is much of the rest of the game. There is also the matter of rules regarding casting two spells in one turn.

Casting a spell as either an action or bonus action will prevent you from casting another spell with the other unless it's a cantrip or spell-like ability that isn't a spell. For example, a Paladin could cast Branding Smite as a bonus action and also use Lay on Hands, but could not do both Branding Smite and Cure Wounds.

Yeah, the problem is that the Light spell was not a bonus action, but a standard action, and the spiritual weapon had already been cast the previous round.

As I mentioned, I'd already cast the spiritual weapon the previous round. In the current round, I wanted to use my bonus action to attack with it, but the UI did not show me the bonus action option after I'd already completed a standard action (casting a light spell).

Well then you'll need to bug report that.

I have cast multiple spells and still been able to strike with Spiritual Weapon so long as they are normal spells, and I use Spiritual Weapon a great deal.

Tks Silverquick.....I'll probably play the game again once the full access version comes out and see if the issue is still happening, as I plan to start a new game anyway.

My point is, if you'd connected the dots, there could be a bug in the game where it is treating moving/attacking with Spiritual Weapon as 'casting a spell' with your bonus action when it is not supposed to, or something along those lines.

Either way, the developers already know Spiritual Weapon is bugged and are attempting to fix it as we speak.

Thanks. Yep, makes sense that the game mechanics probably interpret it as a spellcasting action, hence no bonus action after. Good to hear that the devs are aware of the issue. though.

Well ♥♥♥♥. Here I am mid combat finding out that spiritual weapon is broken. There goes my healer's turn...

There previosuly was a bug which I don't know if they fixed where spiritual weapon conflicted with concentration spells. Eventhough SW doesn't take concentration it acted as if it did. So if you casted daylight for example they would cancel each other out.
