Got to the end, and it's terrible
Other creature save the day, not the hero's. This is game design 101 stuff. Don't take the the accomplishment from the hero's. Like Being in a D&D game and the GMs favorite NPC saves the day. It's crap.
The end battle just go for so many rounds that ends in a cut scene. Not you winnig, just a non-sense cut scene of your character getting a last blow. Which reminds me, the end 25% of the game is padded with so many cut scene, it's ridiculous.

Same thing happens in Divinity Original Sin II, though.

You get to the end of that game and it's a cluster f___.

You start attacking people, then a cut scene is triggered and a dragon starts nuking everybody. You sit there, peering into your computer monitor thinking, what the hell is going on?

Then the game ends.

It is a combo the Magister couldn't do it without the party and the party couldn't do it without the Magister. I mean they could have forced your character who wore the magister crown to do the npc work but then you fight that final battle without them. the cut scene is the bit where the magister channels all the power needed to close the gate including I assume the spirits of all the dragons in the gems.

It was pretty clear to me that i had done my job and given the magister the time they needed to close the gate

My lvl 10 party did not have the power level need to destroy a gateway created by multiple gods and it would have been stupid if they had done it alone

That sounds brutal. Almost as bad as Cruella Deville parents getting killed by dalmatians in the origins story no one asked for

It's the same in the Witcher 3, you help Ciri save the world but the player, Geralt isn't the hero in the end. I don't see how it's wrong.
You may very well not like it, but it's not uncommon nor a forbidden practice.

Plus this is not game design, this is narrative.

Didn't like the ending myself. I was fighting several enemy, then boom......cutscene. I love the game mechanics, but the writing is below average. Look forward to any DLC and future content. Decent start, but needs improvement.

Ending fight is hilariously easy. I put cleric w/ guardian of faith and put the fire wall and it's one hit kill

The last battle you just have to protect him for 5 rounds....once that ends it goes to the cut scene where he closes rift. You are just protecting him its simple. I just wish your characters would be back in town so you could farm more for crafting afterwards but instead the game just ends.

Didn't I read somewhere that the devs hinted at forgetting to put in a HUGE monster during that final combat encounter? If so that would make sense, because it is so easy, but I think there should be 2 or 3 more waves of Soraks possibly temporarily held-off by the dragons until they are overrun.

You were able to successfully cast Guardian of Faith? What is the secret?!

I mean the spirit guardian, my bad. It's grayed though
... so what do you have expected from LEVEL 10 CHARS ????

It already has been done more as expected and in that "basic" D&D Version you even didn't had all that cool items (apart from that stupidity you could only use 3 of them at once per char) , which would have given you a realistic chance ...

even my chars also have been stood behind a wall of insects and death fog for a second time, but wouldn't be able to cast them a third time :steammocking: they would have been overrun without better items and better/more potions (which aren't in the game)

As a longtime AD&D player I have a lot a legit chars, which would have wiped the ground with my Solasta group :steamhappy: ...

So for a "low equipped and level"
(even I had near all the best gear, which was in the game ... but wasn't able to buy that 26str girdle, enough money but only 69 standing )

D&D group it was a heroic good ending for them !

And ONLY 3.8% of all players have finished the game yet (8th June 21)
not many I would say ...

The ending is very anticlimactic, the dragons will usually wreck the first fight in my experience and the "hold the line" thing is just a recreation of that one vision from earlier with your whole party but undone by the fact that you have 4 party members at level 10.

The rest of the game is great, but the ending feels very rushed and uninspired to me.

only one half dead dragon showed up in my first wave fight and he rushed into my insect/death fog area, where I wasn't able to heal him enough, so he died very fast with the enemies , stupid brat :steammocking: ...

I would have designed it the way, that the dragons would have been fought left and right of the group , out of control from the human player, where they would have fought against hundreds of enemies (only pretend / not calculated) ...
so that you have the feeling you would be fu... without them and that you only defend a small part of the battlefield ... as D&D player you know, that you are nothing with lev 10

I actually remember thinking this was pretty awesome back in Darkside of Xeen

I just conjured elementals and kicked back shooting things while the bad guys all went straight to them. Yes, it is disappointing that the end was so easy and so quickly over, but what about "wandering around" after you "win"? I was crafting items and hoping for some leftover side quests and just the normal ol' "roam around and make sure I did it all" time. Is there really no way to go back to town and just "be"?
