HP Rolling Once Per Char, then same roll every level thereafter
Level up my characters (in game) I've noticed that each character gets exactly the same number of HP every level from 2nd onwards? Whatever they rolled at 2nd level, they get at 3rd, 4th etc...

I wouldn't be surprised if you can change it in settings, but the default seems to be maximum HP on level up, instead of rolling.

I don't remember off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure you always get the max HP in 5e, instead of rolling them.

You get max HP at level 1 always.

Then the game use the rule of average rounded up HP by default. You can change it in the diificulty settings.

This is sort of what's going on... But my observation is that my Mage character get 4 HP per level. He has no feats or CON bonus, so he is always getting max.

I thought 6 hp was max for 5e Wizards. So 6hp at 1st, 4 hp at 2nd level and thereafter as the standard "non-rolling" practice.

From the Player's Handbook on calculating hit points for a Wizard:

Hit Dice: 1d6 per wizard level
Hit Points at 1st Level: 6 + your Constitution modifier
Hit Points at Higher Levels: 1d6 (or 4) + your
Constitution modifier per wizard level after 1st

Many DMs, including Adventurers' League, require that you calculate hit points, not roll them.

Yeah it's working as intended. Basically the diff in hp per level in 5e isn't as large because of the round up feature.

Wizards get base 4 (1/2 of 6 rounded up), rogues and clerics etc get 5 if I remember right (1/2 of 8 rounded up), fighters/pally/rangers etc get 6 (1/2 of 10 rounded up) and barbs get 7.

Because of con bonuses you can literally have a wizard who gets more hp per round that a barbarian lol, especially with bonus feats added in etc.

In 5e, you have a feat you can get that adds 2 hp per level as well, on top of the con bonus.

A human versatile wizard could start with a 19 con +4/hp and toughness +2 hp, giving you 10 hp a pop after the first level. Getting a +1 con feat at level 4 would then give them +11 hp per level.

A 14 con barbarian with no bonus feats would only get 9 hp/lvl hehe.

Anyway in general it's best to use the rounded up feature unless it's for theme because over so many levels it ends up better. I guess if you scum saved you could re-roll level ups on here and have a few more hp, but it's not really worth it in my opinion (unless your playing a wizard with no con bonus which is for theme anyway, so you would never scum save something like that.
